Monte Story:
I bought my 71 Monte Carlo on April 13 1979, and I was 17 at the time. I worked for my brother that had a used car lot. Him and another dealer would travel to Kenly, N.C. to buy cars that weren't rust buckets. It was just a stock 350/350TH, bench seat, P/S,A/C car. I drove the car for 3 years, but only during the good weather. I would by a beater to run during the winter. I decided it was time to do some body work and get her repainted. One of my buddies talked me into the hood scoop, and I figured why not get a mural painted on it. The guy that painted it nicknamed it the "Red Baron" because of the skull with the old style war helmet. I bought a set of bucket seats from a friend, and had the interior redone. Then came the chore of putting it all back together. One weekend as usual, I was working on the monte, and my other brother told me, once you discover women, that car will be pushed aside. Well about a month later I got to prove him right, and the work slowed down dramatically.
I got another job, and bought my own house. We loaded the monte on a rollback and moved it. I got married, had a daughter, and built our house. We loaded the monte on a rollback and moved it. See a pattern yet?
I was on the computer one evening and did a google search for monte carlo, and the first site to come up was FGMCC. I watched it for a couple days and was impressed with the amount of activity on it and the helpful responses. I joined up right away. With so much information available I got my monte uncovered and started to figure out where I had left off at.
I went to my 1st Eastern meet in 2007 at Indy without my car. While there, the announcement for the 2008 meet was made, Greensburg, Pa. I knew I had to go to that meet, it was only 30 miles from my home. I had started a frame off restoration and had a deadline to meet!
I got it on the road the night before I was leaving for the meet. The next morning, I took it for the alignment, came home and packed, and left for the meet! It was a wonderful time!
