Carlisle All GM
Nationals

June
22-26, 2005 Carlisle, Pennsylvania
Thoughts from
Andreas Kwetkus
Phew!
Another great FGMCC meet is over again… Until the last minute, I did not
know for sure if I would make it (had to secure a mortgage for the house
we bought). But know, I am very happy that I was there!
Big
Kudo’s to Rob Peters and Stan Kulikowski, our members from PA, who
volunteered to take on the task organizing this whole event. They did a
stellar job!
I left
Thursday morning around 9 am and without too many traffic delays on I-40
and I-81, I arrived around 6:30 pm at the hotel (after $70 for gas). After
checking in, I found Rob in the rear parking lot organizing driving games
for the members. Marchie, our newsletter editor, was also there. Thanks to
his big cooler and continuous supply of soft drinks, no one dehydrated at
the show. Even though we had a record 97 F on Saturday! After Pizza and
some bench racing, we retired to be fresh for Friday.
Friday,
we drove to the Carlisle Fairgrounds at 7 am for registration and also
showed our cars until noon. Carlisle supplied a nice tent for us.
At
noon, we took off in a Monte convoy of around 10 cars to the AACA car
museum in Hershey. Nice scenic ride. The museum was great, especially the
Corvette collection on loan.
We all
left around 3:30 pm for Bonnie’s house (Stan’s girlfriend) in Ephatra,
PA. A cookout was organized for us. Pulled pork and hot dogs, hmmm….
They also have a nice pool in the backyard….
More
driving games…
Datadave
came with his truck and could not keep up with our fast Montes. He got
lost a bit, but Rob gave instructions on the cell and finally Dave made it
to the cookout.
The
drake back from the cookout was a trip from hell. Traffic on I-76 was
basically stopped for an accident. We sat 45 min on the highway. After the
accident cleared, traffic went form 0 to 70 in a matter of seconds. And
then the lines at the toll booth exit, wow! We finished Friday with
benchracing in the hotel parking lot.
Saturday
was the big show day. Some of us hit the Fairgrounds around 7 am. During
the day, many members showed up, with and without Montes.
In
total, we had 27 Montes showing from our club! We signed up 2 new members
at the spot. One new member did not even own a Monte, he just wanted to be
part of such a great club after seeing all the cars!
The
Model Car Build contest was lots of fun
Some of
us left the show around 4 pm to head back for the hotel. There, we got
dressed for the “70’s night” at a local restaurant (Marcello’s).

We had
50 people in the restaurant for the 70’s night and Award Ceremonies.
Rob
also organized a Box Grab, which was a lot of fun. Saturday concluded with
benchracing in the hotel parking lot.
After a
short visit to the fairgrounds on Sunday, Kevin Wiles and I teamed up to
go South together on I-81. Not before we found out that club members won 1st,
2nd and 3rd in the Carlisle Monte Carlo Class. And
our club won a nice trophy for 2nd in Club Participation!
Kevin
left me at the I-81/I-77 split between Roanoke and Bristol. I arrived home
around 7 pm safe and sound. What a great meet! I was happy to get to know
all the members I have not met before and also see old friends again…!
Looking forward for next year’s meet already…
