  1. John, I digress. I have bought many cars at Barrett and there is literally something for everybody. Unless your last name is Leno, Zucherberg, or Trump, you probably should not be pining after a Gullwing Benz, an L72 67 Vette, or a 427 AC Cobra. Early auction coverage usually doesn't make tv, so just check out the docket online to see where some of the blue collar cars sell for.

  3. There is a fine line between a high mileage Toyota or Honda versus a VW product. I get the 1.8s and the 2.0s in my shop daily. Veedub/Audis are my oil leaking, timing chain stretching, can't hold it's own coolant kinda car. Not hard to work on if you have the right tools, and by 2005, the 13mm bolt was mostly a thing of the past. Now it is Etorx, torx, and even more Etorx. My advice is get rid of it and go for something a little more Japanese. I always tell my customers that European cars are like condoms. Things you buy new.
  4. More just referencing the QQ paint code on the trim tag. Lol. Looks like my Chevelle will be giving up its engine this winter. It is a factory 427 car but that bullit is long gone. In place is a 73 454 out of either a Monte or Impala. Lots of day2 goodies that are coming off. I cut the ladder bars off for the sake of my kidneys. It is a factory tach car so the Moroso tach driver distributor has to go. Cragars came off after a week. Car came with few options. The 385hp 427, M20, 3.73 12 bolt. Tach and gauges, F41 suspension, poverty caps, power steering, and that is it. Car was sold new in Staten Island but is amazingly rust free. It has a 1988 Staten Island inspection sticker on the windshield. And I found this funky plate under the seat.

  9. Been through some health issues and way too many funerals the last two years, including my only brother. And a new addiction, rc cars. Car is going to be a weekend beater. Car was not on my list and I was simply trying to rep my company wearing my work shirt. I saw the car on the block, threw a bid or two when the cameras were on me, my number was $35k, dropped at $15,500. I wasn't mad. Of course it ran hot and crappy on the way home, but nothing a push on the choke cable and a new radiator couldn't fix. For your consideration, the Primal RC Grave Digger. 80 pounds of originally 50cc two stroke 12 mph of power. Now 12s brushless that does 52 mph. The little feller on top is a Losi LMT Grave Digger.
  10. Car has a crazy story but the original owner just recently passed and lived around 20 minutes away. Bought it new in Staten Island and it was a beater for a year and parked shortly after. His son brought it down to Flariduh 30 years ago. On the windshield is a Staten Island inspection sticker from 1988 with the tag number MINT 427. Under the passenger seat was the NY tag. Factory 6000 tach, full gauges, but yet a Moroso cable tach, Sun gauges, ladder bars, and Cragars. very much a Day 2 style that I'm trying to reverse. Except the electric cutouts. Those I like. Car shows as one of two black L72 solid lifter 427 cars known, but until I can find a build sheet it is off the table.
  11. My Barrett-Jackson buy of 2023. A stripped to the bones 68 Biscayne. Factory black car, M21 with a bench. Power steering but manual brakes. Originally a 427 4 speed 12 bolt car. Has a 454 in it now and will probably going to be in there for awhile. Car is a hoot to drive. Just not a hoot to stop. Had Cragars, I like the cheap look.
  12. If only it were that easy. You have to get the condenser 7-8 inches away from the core support to clear the inlet portion of the condenser to the right of the drivers headlight. The drier is the outlet. All good. It is just work, and if you want it, you have to do it.
  13. I try not to use any petroleum based anything on ac systems. The right O rings will hold in place as long as they are fresh. The Supercool PN is 568-211-10.
  14. These are what makes 134a work really well. My 71 will freeze me out in South Florida with all stock components. It converts the old POA system to a cycling clutch system. Easy to install. Old Air sells them.
  15. I would never pay that much for someones shiny hot rod. Nice car, but I see $30-$35k tops if it has it all. Nice car, but to me all that persionalization devalues quite abit. The scoop kills it for me, but a hood can be changed. Then prepped, painted and then installed. Changes on hot rods can get very pricey.
  16. Pretty well optioned hot rod you got there. L48 350 gets you a 12 bolt rear. Buckets and air. I'd have to finish that one. Eyes are shot, what was the original color?

  19. Of the 7 legal hot rods I have, I am just too cheap to go anything other than premium 10% ethanol. That means I have to run at least two full tanks through every year and in the summer slam them with Sta Bil. Being in South Florida it is the opposite of Northern climates. The fun stuff only rolls fall, winter, and spring. Even my Hemi doesn't mind it and neither does my 11:1 632 in my race car.
  20. It goes to the super heat switch on the back of your 72. It completes the ground circuit by measuring temperature and opens the circuit at around 250 degrees when working properly. If the switch is open, you can just clip the end of the connector and ground it right to any of the compressor mounting bolts.
  21. So, pinup girls and Monte Carlos do not go together? So now you know how one way to lose dues paying members. And I get that Facebook decimates discussion forums, but there are problably a few hundred that could have been kept. Buy your numbers, 90% of paid members have moved on in the last 22 years. Read into that what you will/
