  1. Believe me when I say this, "I know little about computers" but the only thing I can think is sometimes the site runs a little slow, and sometimes the problem can end up being on your end with your internet connection or your pc's capability. I don't have a top of the line, bells and whistles computer but sometimes when I first click on a link I can't see the pictures but within a second or two things the pics start to appear. Don't think that really helped but I figured I'd just throw something out there.

    The new ride.

Nice! Good luck Chevrolet... we all know they need it.
  3. Good job guys! Man, those inner fenders came out nice!

    site issues

I use IE and have had some similar issues, but honetly I'm kinda releived that some others are having the same problems. I was thinking it was just my antique computer acting stupid again... I haven't had to go through what Mike has, as far as having to re login but it's just been kinda slow after I make a post.
  5. Look in this forum under "Best to clean Grille?" and that will kind of give you an idea of what you can do. The grille I bought wasn't perfect but after a good cleaning and detail I thought it turned out pretty good. I used black but I the think correct color is Argent Silver. Jack (PapaCoop60) just redid his and I believe thats the color he used...
  6. Thats what I'm gonna do. You will be adding a little weight but strengthening the front clip. And besides, I heard the steels aren't to much heavier than the plastics I bought.
  7. Thanks for the correction Sam. I meant steel inner fenders, simple typo.
  8. Just to add on what Allan said, you might want to consider getting some of the steel Chevelle front fenders. Some of the guys in the Club have made the conversion and say it really seems to stiffen up the front of the car. Putting that much glass on the car it might help with flexing in the panels. I bought some of the plastic ones from OPG a couple of years back, they fit alright but I want to switch to the steels. You definitely want to seal up the engine compartment as much as you can. (Of course with enough room for the radiator to properly cool) If you end up running a cowl hood you can get an air isolator plate up in the cowl which will help with turbulence in the engine compartment, at high speeds you can pull fuel out of the carb.
  9. What everybody is saying is that it hard to have one or the other as far as a race car or a fast street car. Fast street cars have back seats and trunks. That doesn't mean you can't kick @$$ out there at the track! If you are really trying to lose weight, then get the full fiberglass front end. But then it wouldn't really be a streetable car. Hey I'm all about fiberglass, I've done almost all the things to my car that was talked about in this post. But you get to a point where you have to be realistic with your Monte Carlo. These are heavy cars; anything is gonna help. But if you don't have a trailer... if this is your only car... if you've taken so much off the car it would be a risk to even want to drive around the neighborhood. If I can find a decent original 1st Gen one day, then my 72 will get a full cage no doubt! But until then I want to drive my car to the track and on the track. Like I said I've put fiberglass pieces on mine but I've kept all my origial parts and am already starting to cringe when I think of all the idiot drivers here in San Antonio...
  10. If you have a bench seat that thing weighs a ton, you can find some much lighter sportier seats from a modern car. Thats one of the things I did. In my case it's really hot where I live so I wanted to keep my heater just in case of a situation where I might overheat, so I removed all of the a/c components. You can get rid of your gas tank and put in a fuel cell, but mine didn't really weigh too much less than my original tank. Remove all of the factory exhaust hangers off the car if they are still under there. And of coure all of the things everybody else said. The more fiberglass you put on the car the more dangerous it's gonna be to drive on the street, for the simple fact that if someone hits you the car will shatter.

    WOW!!!!!!

Cool Robyn! Man I wish I had an overdrive...
  12. Hey Robert, Good to see you posting! Give me a call; I want that car 70!
  13. You are correct, but if you find one for cheap get it. Summit or Jegs sell a plate for pretty cheap to convert to the Chevy bolt pattern. Junkyard transmissions are gonna end up going out; might be a year might be a week... You'll definitely want to get it rebuilt whenever the funds allow. Good luck.
  14. Nice! Another Monte making it's way down the Strip! Some tweaks and you'll be in the 13's in no time.
  15. Man Jake... the taping took more time than anything!!! A few different times I thought "Screw it! I'm painting the whole grille!" I think I've got something like 12 hours on it. A labor of love?
  16. Alright... after hours (and hours and hours) of cleaning, Dremel work, light sanding, and taping I'm finally done. Well at least mostly; I have to do a little removal of overspray... Here's what I got: Halfway taped off. Here you can see how much straighter the new grille is. The older grille was pitted badly. Here you can see the flat black I painted the slots with. I know it's not correct but it really brings out the chrome. (It was overcast today but the grille looks really nice in the light.) This one had alot less pitting.
  17. Thank you sir, just wondering. When I look through their site I didn't see them mention anything about the valve body set up, so thats what I figured, but just wanted to make sure.
  18. Look into the Cheetah valve bodies. I have a 400 under the car and thought about going to the Cheetah reverse, a buddy of mine down here that I use for tranny work reccomends them. You can shift into gear, or just leave it alone and it acts like a regular/forward valve body(If understand correctly) Not to hijack the thread but when it comes to the GV Bill, does it work with both forward and reverse valve bodies?
  19. I'm not sure about the color either but my 72 has black. And I don't mean to hijack the thread but what is the correct "adhesive" to use to put the plugs back in the floorpan ?
  20. Thanks for all the suggestions everybody. I have some better pictures I'll be posting that show the before and after a little more clearly.
  21. What do you guys reccomend on cleaning the grilles for our cars. I've been working on the grille I just bought from Danny and it's a really straight piece. This will end up being the 4th one on the car since I've owned it. It's not perfect but it's pretty close. I first rinsed it down with hot water and a little bit of soap to get anything loose off of it. Then I started using Brasso, but stopped after a while because the can even says that it's abrasive. It was cleaning it up pretty well though. Then I broke out the Dremel and started polishing slat by slat. About three hours later I had half done. Any recommendations on polishing compounds?
  22. Bumper from Andreas came last week or so and was still in one piece. Luckily because we all know how UPS (United Postal Smashers) like to handle packages. I got it sanded down and I'm still unsure about the LED lights. Anybody reccomend a fiberglass kit? I've seen and heard you can get them anywhere but maybe somebodies got a suggestion. I've never worked with Kitty Hair (Tiger hair) but I've heard it's not too hard. Am I wrong?
  23. The VFN hood does have the seam on the cowl, it may not be as pronounced as some of the other companies are. I guess time and paint will tell. But I like it. And just like eveyone said, make sure to check it. If you got the race weight hood (which it sounds like you did) the hood is very fragile, you can just feel how easy it could get damaged in shipping. Who is gonna end up bringing you the hood? AAA Cooper is who shipped mine; I made the guy wait till I was done looking it over. Their drivers are a little more patient than the other freight carriers.
  24. That's exactly what I paid for mine from VFN. Mine was 13 lbs.
  25. I'll post some pictures of the underside to show how and where it mounts. And Jared the grille I'm getting is from Danny (FGMCC member White Knight)
