  2. Trying to determine what I'll need to convert from the standard Monte steering wheel to the 4-spoke sport wheel (NK4)? Found a really nice wheel without any parts.
  3. Hi Dale, search for a product called PC7, it is a 2 part compound and works great. I've restored 2 wheels with this product. Lots of sanding and detail work, but you'll love the result!
  4. Most auto parts stores carry the removal tool for only a few bucks...
  5. Question for the experts, will a factory sport steering wheel from a 79 camaro fit on my 71 Monte?
  6. This isn't exactly stock but it was cheap & effective. O'Reileys Auto Parts has these universal tanks for about $8 and a piece of aluminum 1/2" stock from Home Depot for $3 or $4
  7. Michael, I just search on Craig's in Minneapolis at found these from a 72 Monte https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ank/pts/d/70-to-72-monte-carlo-parts/6656034395.html
  8. Yes Terry, there is chrome on that front edge of the slats. I've refurbished 2 of them and its a bit of work since we're dealing with pot metal. I also hand painted the vertical bars satin black after spraying everything else the stock silver. A simple trick to cover the chrome edge is to use a crayon on the chrome edge, rubbing a good layer of the waxy coating only on the chrome edge. After the paint is dry, you can then rub off the crayon wax. I've used a wooden tongue depressor to rub off the crayon as it won't scratch the chrome. Good Luck!
  9. Hey Vince, here's a few photos in the stock configuration. Good Luck!
  10. Thanks for the clarification Chris. I did not realize that the Shift works kit was different than the OEM version. I'don't replace the PCB as previously mentioned, good luck!
  11. Chris, when converting to gauges the PCB must be changed out as with several changes to the main cable connection. I've done 2 of these upgrades and even changed the location of gauges, modifications to the PCB & connector are a must. Good luck!
  12. What year is your Monte? Most 70 Montes had 6 bumpers, 71&72'so only received 4.....
  13. Phil, you should also look at the product from Eastwood, it's easy to put down and much cheaper than the Dynamat product........
  14. Don, if your SBC350 is fairly stock, don't go larger than 2.25" exhaust tubes. My 350 is overbored .030 (355) reworked heads, performer intake, hedman long tube headers and Flowmaster 44's with 2.5" exhaust and she sounds killer and runs great.
  15. Mike, yes there felt like a bit of looseness or play in the fork, and I read that for longer life of the bearing, adding this spring to insure that there is NO contact with the clutch fingers. I'm just south of Scottsdale about 20 miles, give me a call and we possibly can meet up! 602-397-0238 cell
  16. Hey Mike, I'm using two. I had tried the 1 spring method but didn't care for the feel plus I wanted to insure the adjustment rod from the fork was always snug. Here's a photo I have of current setup before the headers went on, the 2nd spring (not shown) went from Z-bar to the frame as shown in the photo from the manual. Good Luck!
  17. Mike, I too have used the kit offered by Sonnie, the quality is excellent and has good instructions. Dennis' link is very helpful to clarify Sonnie''s instructions. Sonnie's kit uses an AMP gauge, Shift works has a VOLT gauge, totally different wiring. I sent my AMP gauge out to be converted to VOLTS, my preference.....Shift works didn't offer this package when I did my conversion. Good luck!
  18. Mike, my 71 was a column shift automatic, I have not swapped the steering column (yet),but I wired the shift lever at the bottom of the column so it is always in PARK. I did not install a reverse lockout either. I'm the only driver of my Monte so depressing the clutch pedal at start up is natural for me growing up with manual trannys. I installed a new Hurst shifter and purchased the Hurst reverse light switch that mounts on the linkage,so wiring to the connector on the column was cake. I`m currently on vacation in Branson,MO but when I get home I can send more details with photos....Good Luck! Murphy
  19. Good morning Mike, as Darren mentioned, he is right on the mark. The drive shaft in your Monte will work if you use in correct bellhousing. Definitely get the u joints replaced and shaft Rebalanced. The crossmember is actually different but I used my stock one and drilled additional holes in the frame for mounting. Also will need new trans mount. Good luck, you'll love it!
  20. Chris, you don't need to remove the entire dash, just loosen to pull forward to remove gauge cluster. You will need to drop the steering column & let it rest on the seat. Dash pad must be removed first. There are instructions in the archives, just take it slow....
  21. I replaced my clock with a shift works Tach, excellent part & instructions. Just insure you order the correct one for correct color lighting, 70 = green, 71/72 = white. Looks completely stock!
  22. Just sent you a PM Joe.........here's a photo ,already refurbished.
