  1. Best thing is to start and drive you car each and every day! 🤣
  2. On my 71 Monte 350 Qudrajet 4bbl, if I haven't started the engine for a week or more I have to crank and crank and crank for a very long time to refill the float bowl. Once the float bowl is filled, it starts just fine. If I start it every day, the engine starts just fine. I have heard that this issue is a perfect reason to instal an electric fuel pump. You turn on the key, wait till the electric pump stops, then push the gas pedal down, release and start the engine.
  3. Check this out: At about 16 Minutes into the view. This is a newer choke than from 71 era but should help you see what is hapening.
  4. When you "pump" the gas pedal, just prior to starting the engine, the Choke should close, if it's a cold engine. The choke activates the High Speed Idle allowing the engine to keep running with the choke closed or partially closed till it warms up a bit. Hitting the gas pedal with your foot quickly will (should) cause the idle to drop to the next lower level and will lower it again when you hit the pedal again or start to drive the car. Here is a picture of my 71 350 Qudrajet 4 barrel carb. See the choke blade at the top front of the carb. It is slightly closed but will close all the way if cold and when you hit the gas pedal.
  5. On my 71 Monte, I've had slight leakage under my trans area for some time now but over LAST winter it got worse. Mine looks like it's from the left (drivers) side of the THM350 either the speedo or shifter area. Last spring I added some trans fluid drove it about 1,000 miles over the summer and the problem was back to a very slight leakage on the cardboard I always keep under the car. When spring comes, I'll check it out again. I'm sure it repaired itself! 😆
  6. Found these pictures years ago if they help. I was going to do it to my 71, I have 71 or 72 cloth green buckets in the basement but changed my mind, too much work for me.
  7. (LONG STORY, sorry) Sidebar on car insurance: My wife's 73 Cougar was getting older and we just got married so I was trying to save some money. I pulled everything off of her Cougar and my Monte, that was not required by law. Not that long after I did this, she was sideswiped so we had to pay for the repairs. I saved a few $$ on the repair by not replacing the "pin stripe" (it was a triple!) where the 1/4 panel was repaired. Time went by, it's the 27th Sept 1979, we now have a new 78 T-Bird, the monte was stored in a garage. We just bought a home and our first child was on the way when someone stole the Cougar from my wife's work parking lot!!!!!!!!!! We never found it. I did just ask about it on "LOST MUSCLE CARS" BUT NO LUCK. I did get to take a loss, when we filed our income tax that year. I will never remove any part of any car insurance ever again!!!
  8. J. C. Taylor for many many years.
  9. I should (we all should) add a sticker to the top of the master cylinder as to what DOT brake fluid I am using. I think it's 5.
  10. If this can be of any help, here is the connector to the AM/FM Stereo from my 71 Monte Carlo. I replaced the original for a cassette + CD (in the trunk) player.
  11. Very nice, thank you! I feel like it was made in the 50's.
  12. Not sure if I can do this legally, let me know! it's a copy of a 2006 FGMCC magazine. https://1971montecarlo.wordpress.com/2024/02/03/test/
  13. And now you do get WOT!! Everyone needs WOT!!!
  14. For my 71 bench seat Monte I ordered the optional AK1 Custom Deluxe Belts I have much smaller buckles for the driver and ft passenger lap belts and they are, "self adjusting" I believe this option also included the "Not in use holders" for the unused belts, as in this picture:

    Hello

    Welcome Jim!
  16. This is my 71 350 Automatic with speed control added by me. I would say the top hole? After you do attach it, make sure you get WOT (Wide Open Throttle)
  17. This is a great question!! I think I used 50/50 with my city water system. I think I have seen Pre Mixed 50/50 in stores. And now the question I have, how long between changes? I just looked and last time I did a coolant change was in 2009 about 16,000 Miles ago, when I replaced the heater core and many other things. WOW!! Is the proper disposal method still the storm drain? (I remember doing that in the late 60's and early 70's.) 😁
  18. John, yes I have been to "Lost Muscle Cars" and gave them my wife's 73 Cougar VIN # but they couldn't find anything. It was stolen in Sept 1979, that's not that long ago... 😂 I find that I am receiving 5 to 10 new "Lost Muscle Cars" Facebook pages every day now.
  19. I saw this on Facebook "BUMPER" many times and started to fill the serial number in, for my wife's stolen 73 Cougar. I didn't continue, incase it's a scam. Anyone here use it or try it or know about it? Screenshot of FB page:

    Funny

Every time I fill up my 71 Monte, I will think of this! 🤣 What is the lowest cost per gallon of gasoline you remember filling up your Monte with? I remember $0.19 !!
  21. Such a cool idea. I have never seen anything like these, thanks for sharing.
  22. Old Snow blower snowday? I got mine from my Father in-law in the 1980's. It's from 1967 I believe. No safety systems at all and it's for sale (You pick it up) $999.00. 🤣
  23. Is the vacuum advance hose, to the distributor, removed and plugged?
