  1. Thanks for posting!

After I bought my 71, my high school friend got a 71 SS 454, tan with a dk brn vinyl roof like in one of the pictures.

Sadly he was T Boned while driving it, when a dump truck ran a red light. No injuries but totaled the SS 454. 😞

  2. If we are talking about the same thing, it's the switch that will turn on the parking brake "warning light" on the dash.

I forgot to plug it back in one time and I drove the car 5 + miles with the parking brakes ON!!

My Monte Carlo, is a 1971. I don't know if that matters.

Not sure but the return spring (that releases the tension on the rear brakes) is part of the parking brake cables (I THINK)

The {GROUND} screw I have an arrow pointing to, is the ground wire attachment point for the dashboard harness.

  3. One very important thing to remember is the shift indicator cable (If you have a column shifter) is very easy to break.

    See attached picture:

This is one thing to watch out for, I knew about it and still broke mine.

I had my dash all out of the car when I pulled the cluster.

  4. 3 more pics of the evap system on my 71:

This was leaking vacuum (see the damage) so I replaced the entire canister many years ago.

This small blue restrictor was inside one of the small hoses, shown on the diagram below. I almost threw that restrictor out the day I replaced all the small hoses.

  5. That reminds me how prior to ELPO (A PPG name I believe) or electroplating primer, cars were dipped into a tank of, what we called at DuPont, "BLACK DIP PRIMER".

When I restored my 71 back in the 80's I worked at DuPont Automotive finishes laboratory in Troy, Michigan, and we had black dip primer available. It required baking at 400 F. for 30 minutes to cure. We did have large ovens at the lab and I was able to prime the entire Radiator support core and the top plate. That was a long time ago and it still looks great!    Good times!!!

  6. Reading these posts reminds me of when I still had the original thin single white sidewall Goodyear G70x15 tires on my 71. A friend of mine (His name is also Bruce) bought a new 71 SS 454 Monte Carlo, about 5 or 6 months after I got my Monte. Not that long after he got it, he bought new Michelin radial tires! The ride and control was so much better, I couldn't wait to get some for my Monte. Now someday when I need to replace the tires I have now, (Almost 8 years old) the hard part will probably be finding the single thin white stripe. I do still have the original spare tire in the trunk!

  7. I never drove this but it held the NHRA record E.T. @ 11:37 with an inline Pontiac OHC SIX back in the late 60's. I did help work on it when I was 15 - 18 years old. My Brother in-law and two of his friends owned it.

I did get a ride one time WOW!AngliaWheelStand.jpg.78e78aea648f336bfd4888f424e2e37e.jpg1967MiniBikeBruce_1.thumb.jpg.ea3965ed066b5e151fc24bda8fd61921.jpg

I made this MINI Bike in 1966, that was fun. Check out the long chrome exhaust header!!!
