  1. Everything works find since I put in the new circuit board. All idiot lights come on when I start up the car like it did when it was new. I am the original owner. All the lights go out when the car starts up. Everything is find, then every once in awhile the light for the temperature comes on for a few minutes then goes out and stays out. I was not aware there are two different sensors for gauges and idiot lights. I will do more research and see if I was given the wrong one. The one I have is two male prongs. I am also in the process of unwrapping the harness and see if I have a short in the harness itself. Also, could a bad TCS relay cause this problem. I know somehow the relay plays a part with the temperature gauge. Can anyone commit on how the TCS relay effects the temperature gauge. The two wires coming off of the sensor do not seem to be connected to the relay. Anyone has a comment.
  2. Need some help in trying to figure out why my temperature light on my 71 Monte comes on once in awhile, and stays on for a few minutes, then goes back to normal. I have replaced the sensor twice, put in new wiring the last couple of feet away from the sensor. The car is not heating up and the radiator is always filled. I have replaced the circuit board wiring in the dash about a year ago, and have replaced all the lights/bulbs at that time. This just started to occur about a month ago. When I first start up all the idiot lights come on and then go to normal once the car starts. This one has me baffled. There must be some kind of grounding going on, but how do I find it?
  3. Thanks for the info on the rear window crank spring. When adjusting the window I noticed they were missing in the rear. Probably when I had the monte restored several years ago they did not replace them.
  4. Quick question ,does the back windows on a 71 have springs on the door cranks?
  5. Follow up to bullet door jam switch. I took out the door jam switch and put a piece of tape on the lead wire so it would not go back into the hole in the door. I then took a pair of pliers and held the wire where it is soldered in the switch and gently pulled the switch and out came the bullet connector. Then I just reversed the process with the new switch. Pretty easy replacement.
  6. Update on the vertical weather stripping. I was able to gently use a block of wood and mallet and tap out the chrome molding/rubber from the quarter panel window. You start at the top where the chrome rolls over the top. Once the chrome weather stripping starts to move off the window you can pull it the rest of the way by hand. Once on the bench I was able to put the rubber stripping in a vise and just pull the chrome away from the rubber. I put a little soap as suggested and the new ones slipped right on. I was able to tap the new weather stripping with the old chrome back on the window. There is a layer of very thin rubber that stays on the window edge that keeps the chrome from moving on the window.
  7. I finally found out where those window support plates go. You have to take out the door panel and all the hardware. Then carefully remove the glass. Once this is done you have access to the screws that support the felt window edge with chrome. Remove the felt strip and you will find under the felt recess areas with two screw holes in each. They are located at each end of the window. Once the window support plates are screw in, then you can reassemble the door. Quite a bit of work for two support plates. This one really had me going until I decided to strip the whole door down.
  8. I have taken off the panel on the driver side door. There are two small support brackets that guide the window up and down and they have one bolt through them. I can not find any area of the top of the door frame that have any kind of screw holds for these brackets. Could these brackets possibly be for the back quarter glass or am I looking in the wrong area on the front door. This one has me baffled. I know they came out of this monte before the repair work, because I owned the car since new. Need some help on this one.
  9. Cody, the photo you sent are exactly the brackets I have four of. Now the question is where do they go on the door? I have several manuals of the 71 Monte, however I was not able to find out exactly where they screw into on the door. Any photos or scan document would be great.
  10. I am trying to upload a photo of four brackets that I believe came from my two front doors on my 71 Monte. The file size is 1.7 MB and the program keeps telling me the file is to big. I tried taking the picture with my 35mm and that file was 2.4 MB. I believe the attachment program is 500 KB. How do I upload the photo of the brackets. I am not sure of where they go in the door. I think they support the window as you foll it up. It has two screw holes on each bracket and has a protective coating on the metal. When they worked on the doors they told me they did not know where they go. There are four of them with screws.
  11. Thanks everyone for the info. It looks like time to take off the old and put in the new.
  12. Yes, it is the vertical not horizontal rubber strip that runs between the quarter window and door glass. It is chrome plated and has a rubber strip inside. The chrome is like new, however the rubber is pretty will petrified. I would like to just take out the old rubber and slide in a new one if they are available.
  13. I would like to replace the rubber seal that runs horizontally at the end of the quarter window. It seals the front window from the back quarter window. It has a chrome trim that is rolled over at the top and is open at the bottom. To remove the whole unit, you tap it out with a piece of wood again the chrome edge. The question is due you have to buy both the chrome trim and the rubber as one piece or can you just buy the rubber insert and pry the old one out and insert the new rubber? OPG sells the unit, however they are $80 per unit plus shipping. That's close to two $200 for both windows. Any ideas??
  14. Thanks everyone for the info. I appreciate the help.
  15. Thanks all for your replies, I have the bullet type connector on my 71 Monte. I have owned the car since 1971. It was our first new car when we got married. So this switch is original. I backed off the switch about a eight inch and now the done light works great. However, I am concerned the switch will work its way back down again and the dome light will stay on. I guess I will try to disconnect it again, now that I know I have to put more pressure on it to disconnect and pick up a new one. Any suggestions besides OPG. There shipping is so expensive.
