  1. WHAT? NO ONE SAID ANDY GRIFFITH? GOTTA LOVE THOSE OLD GALAXIES.
  2. ME AND FIRST GRANDAUGHTER, ME AND WIFE.
  3. Almost forgot, I had to replace my 1999 date coded Tigerpaws. Might as well blame him for letting them dry rot during the 3 1/2 years he had her!
  4. Yes, the holes were left under the Quarter trim, left and right, cracked windshield, racked hood, dimpled rear window trim, sanding marks on rear window and rear quarter glass both sides, left fiberglass and bondo in rear wheel wells, destroyed rear wheel well trim (couldn't get screws out, they're still there! trim isn't), body is cracking and bubbling and peeling all over, left off the bumper to body fillers in rear, sanded off the lip on interior trim on rear window, wet sanded car with rear window out and interior still in, left off mounting/adjusting parts on headlights so they will not adjust, scratched my show panel putting hood on, and the color is several shades too dark. Then had the brass to tell me to take it to shows for 2 or 3 months and leave it out in the sun so the paint would cure. Then tells me he fully expected me to call him in 2 or 3 months to have him do it all over, again. And, this was a friend of 35 years who can and has done beautiful work on several show cars! All that was wrong when she went in was 6 or 8 three pointed "starfishes" or paint bubbling and cracking. Had less than 2,000 miles on last restore 8 years prior, with all new stainless, glass, and re-chrome. Should have left well enough alone! The sad thing is, he took 3 1/2 years to mess this up, and I didn't even get kissed!
  5. WELL, THIS IS MY FIRST AWARD, EVER AT A SHOW OR CRUISE-IN! (CAPS ARE FOR YOU, LARRY!) I Joined FGMCC in 2012, but had family health issues and missed the Annual Meet in Hiawassee that year. In 2013, Monte was in body shop beginning in February, couldn't make Carlisle. In 2014, still in shop, ready to final block sand, couldn't make Somerset. In 2015, still in shop, but I took my 1972 Corvette to the Carlisle Annual Meet, just to prove I was real. In May of 2016, Monte was delivered to me in worse condition than I gave it to the bodyman. The pics tell 1/2 the story. I was ashamed to bring her to Norwalk. So, in 2017, I swallowed my pride and brought her to the Hiawassee Meet, just to prove she was real! Had a great time. Followed my son both coming and going. He drove the triple black '75 Monte. We barely did 95 MPH going down, but hit 105 at least 3 times going home! Really nice father and son trip! He made it home, but I ran out of gas only 3 miles from house. I wonder if it was a jinx from the award, or maybe the Mustang I passed right before she ran out? Anyways, thanks to a great bunch for all the friendship and good times. (We MISSED YOU, LARRY!)
  6. ARGUED WITH MY BODY GUY AS TO THE PROBLEMS WITH HIS PAINT JOB / BODY WORK. I AM NOT A HAPPY CAMPER, TO SAY THE LEAST! MORE TO COME AS WE HASH THINGS OUT!
  7. SAW MY MONTE SUNDAY. SECOND TIME SINCE FEB,2013! FIRST TIME WITH NEW PAINT ON. I HATE TO ADMIT HOW EXCITED I WAS, BUT THE SHAKY PICS ARE A DEAD GIVEAWAY! CAN'T WAIT TILL NEXT SUNDAY, SHE'LL BE ALMOST DONE!
  8. cleaned out space for the 71 Monte to park in the garage when she finally comes home with new paint after 3 years! I am now being told she'll be home in March! Hope so.
  9. Ceramic spacer to prevent gas boilout at Taco Bell drive thru? that's why I put one in. Idle 2 minutes, then WOT when leaving, I died without the spacer.
  10. Just my .02 cents, my old '69 vette,(I know, it's not a monte!) had a M22, then a M20, 3.23 rear, 396 BBC. 0-70 MPH and never got over 1,500 rpm. would burnout in 1st and 2nd, bark in 3rd, and do 140mph (a little faster RPM) just before 4th gear shift point. Rear gear is the key, IMHO. You should have plenty of torque with a rear gear 3.23 or taller. I got 15mpg on her hwy and 12 around town. tires were G 70s or 60s, 15".
  11. Try corvette forum. If they are "pristine", or close to it, with matching date codes, someone looking to do NCRS restoration or just plain needs 'em would probably give $100-125 each with correct centers and trim rings. Otherwise, sets around my neck of the woods go for $150 -$300 depending on condition, condition, condition. Good luck. BTW, is the backspace on yours different than 8" rallys off a 1971 Elky?
  12. The absolutest best first meet I EVER had! Thanks, Rob!
  13. sad thing is, my signature pic is before body shop! Shoulda, woulda, coulda!
  14. Called my body guy and was reassured that he could: block seal, paint, paint, and clear my Monte this Friday, sat and sun, and put her all back together! She's still in the same condition as last spring, (primer and blocking spray). He cost me Somerset meet 2014 but I'll make Carlisle even if I have to show my Excursion tow vehicle with the club! The '70 is still having the 468 installed. Son-in-law is coming over Friday to take off the Front pulleys and brackets from a friends RV 454 to use on the 468. we are getting closer, but not close enough for Carlisle! Wish me luck.
  15. Omar, she's looking good! Just think, before long she'll be at this stage!
  16. Pushed my son-in-law, Adam to finish installing the 468inmy '70 in time for Carlisle, even though it will not have paint or redone interior. At least it is on motor and trans mounts! Once, again got a promise from the body shop guy to have the '71 ready, even though he's had her since Feb 2013. At least he stores her inside! I should have just lived with the star fishing paint! Waxed the '72Vette! sent her to shop for minor stuff. Like shifter, tie rod ends, high pressure power steering hose, speedo cable, etc. She'll be ready. Pray for a Monte to be ready! thanks, jim
  17. Saves $$ for more important parts, like cams, carbs, and cooler contents!
  18. IMO, cheapest route might be to measure cable length and check with local auto parts store, Advance, AutoZone, NAPA, etc.
  19. Yup, I was so grateful for your help, I almost thought about changing her color to GREEN! But, my heart just won't let me! Trying to get as close to the old color as possible, with, maybe a lot more metallic! Thanks again, Jim
  20. Yup, I was so grateful for your help, I almost thought about changing her color to GREEN! But, my heart just won't let me! Trying to get as close to the old color as possible, with, maybe a lot more metallic! Thanks again, Jim
  21. STALL HAVEN'T FIGURED OUT HOW TO ATTACH PICS! CHECK OUT MY GALLERY PIC "ALMOST THERE AFTER 18 MONTHS!" MY 1971 ALMOST READY FOR PAINT! SEE HER AT THE EASTERN MEET! My bad, Leghome, sorry!! jim
  22. Called body guy again asking for pics of work to date. Will post as soon as I get them. He did bring me the leftover parts he removed from the lower rear quarters. Pieces of metallic HVAC tape, glue side out with thin gray cardboard, skim coat of bondo, and 6 to 8 layers of primer and paint. You think this is why they didn't bother to bloc the body under the quarter panel trim??
