What did you do to your Monte Carlo today?

Recommended Posts

I have been working 12 hours a day pretty much 6 days a week at my new job at Delta Airlines as an Avionics technician and I finally had an 8 hour day and went to a local car show. It was good to socialize and get behind the wheel again.

Replaced the upper ball joints, idler arm, pitman arm and installed the quick ratio steering box and best of all I drove it for the first time in 4 years. The carb needs some more tuning and the electric choke wired up but it runs.

Congrats on being able to drive it after 4 years.  It must have been a great feeling.

Been busy, had the 350 turbo swapped for a 2004r, swapped the rear gear for a 3:55 with an Eaton Trutrac posi unit, yanked the poly bushings out of the front end and put Moog rubber bushings and ball joints in its place. Car drives like a dream now.

Gave the donor body shell a bath to get ready for body work this fall/winter.  I couldn't believe how much sand came out of the rocker panels and all the floor braces and then how much mouse nest debris came out of all the structure around the roof.  Looks like the only rust repairs needed are drivers side outer cowl and some of the rear window channel.  No rust rot on floors, trunk, or quarter panels :yay:.

This is what I finished doing yesterday.  I put some different seats, carpet and dash pad in my 70.  I think they are from a 72 and they are black and my interior is blue but I got them for a good price and they are in great condition compared to my ripped up cloth interior.  I will probably get my original seats redone in blue cloth at some point but for now this works out fine.

I also changed the oil and filter today.  I haven't driven this car much and didn't realize it had been 7 years since I had last changed the oil.  It only had 500 miles on the oil change and the oil still looked pretty new when I drained it out.

As I can't afford the Turn One (Lee) steering box just now and I want to assemble my steerage gear, I'll use the stock steering box for now.

Keeping in mind it's 50 years old and hasn't had fluid run through it since 1992 when I last ran the engine with a steering pump, I thought I'd first flush it by having the return line stuck into a jug. I don't want any gunk in my new Billet Specialties power steering pump.

This is three quarts of fresh Lucas steering fluid, which is clear. I think I'll do another two quarts before I run the return to the pump. And I'm considering a filter.

Sorry, don't know why all the pics won't post on one post. ☹️

You should be able to select several images to upload in one post like I did above.

Thank you Canuck. I agree. It did not though. I selected the 5 pics and only one posted. That is the color my pictured 71 402 4speed is supposed to be. What color interior is yours? I love your car by the way! Lololol
