What did you do to your Monte Carlo today?

Recommended Posts

A gorgeous day and due to temp increases over the next week figured I should take advantage of a cooler day and

clean inside engine bay, adjust new hood lamp so both light and shut off near same time as hood raises / closes.

Routed some of the wiring so it's neater, checked fluids, vacuumed floor for 1st time with my new cordless rechargeable portable

vacuum cleaner. :)  Had AC fixed (or so I thought) earlier this year.  Tried operating it and never did get cold. :B  Back to the AC guy once I contact him.

One of these days everything is going to work together.  :k

As it heats up over the coming week, I will work on interior where it is cool inside garage.

I'm going to a lot of trouble cleaning her up just to drive roughly 700 miles to Grass Valley (taking Hwy 101 / Coast Hwy) from Portland

down into Calif. and across to Grass Valley.  Wonder how many bugs will attach themselves to the ole girl on the way down.

Other than the AC, Interior & Exterior cleaning/polishing moving forward.

PS - I am on 99967 miles on odometer.  If I can manage it, I would like to turn her over to all zero's just in time for the WM.

Doug

Glad you are racking up the miles, it shows it is being driven. I turned 55,000 orig miles on my old girl returning home from the Eastern Meet.

Took my Monte up to a local cruise in...it was in the 90's with bad humidity. Typically at the time I arrived it would be packed but there were only like 15 cars there. I turned around and just went for a drive... :D

Yeah but it's like your kid had grown up like event with me.  It will only happen once!  I was told by a neighbor yesterday he would never own a Monte Carlo.

He said he see's the hood up more than my driving it. He has been following my progress over the past 9+ years and has seen her evolve over that time.

That 55,000 original miles is awesome Rob.  I started out about 92,700 miles when I 1st bought her.  So I have done alright trying to delay the roll over.  While I

can't claim all original miles, the Maintenance. records that came with her shows a time line that suggests the miles are/were original.  At any rate, it is another

one of those events set in history...........................

Having it all waxed and shined up will make those pesky bugs come off a lot easier

Yes Larry.  That was my thought as well.  I remember last year giving her a good wax and then when cleaning the bugs off, they did come off much easier.  I hope to repeat that this year...................

It's been a busy weekend around the garage. Slide the go jacks under the rear of the 72 so we could get the rear end center and get the car in the center of the garage floor 13769501_1222460904455547_49763827236344  One side of the exhaust nice and level the floor and frame 13754439_1222460911122213_80781442740734 Other side not so much level [img[https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/13612177_1222460947788876_4803814732682511476_n.jpg?oh=62f817321d22c0d495e871a1532a25a8&oe=5816C7C3[/img] exhaust stays tight to the floor and follows the frame out the back. Spent today working on polishing exterior chrome, stainless & aluminum.  Got everything from the door handles up & front / Rear bumpers.  Hopefully will complete tomorrow morning all the body side moldings and wheel well moldings. Also did interior today to.  Getting closer and closer to being done except my January AC Repair did not hold.  The system discharged after about 4 months & will have to take her back again after the WM.  I will throw a can or 2 of 138 in her and should help during the trip.  Just another thing to revisit again and again and again.  Hope he is able to narrow down the seepage so this does not become an annual event.

Everything looks like a go otherwise.

Had items come in this week for the 72 and got around to putting in one of the items. Brought a trunk panel kit to dress up the trunk and finish off the fuel cell. 13876629_1226505104051127_31470288320576 Now I have to come up with a way to finish the panels, going to add 1/4" foam on the panels to close up the gaps and either vinyl or something of carbon fiber cloth. Will dress up the back panel either with a bowtie cut out and a piece of plexiglass with a light behind it to work as a trunk light or a raise bowtie.

Working on cleaning up the 71 for the new owner who picks it up tomorrow. I spent all day yesterday and part of today on it. I think it's cleaner than I have ever had it before. After cleaning I took it out for one last cruise along the lake.

Went out and visit a fabric shop to start working on the panels plus have a 20% discount code. Lay out 1/2" foam on the back panel and then cut out around the bow tie 13924808_1237922322909405_86367847160714  Got the panel by the latch fab up so it's now one piece vs three pieces 13925089_1237650162936621_13210532633759 All the panels will be cover in black suede.
