What did you do to your Monte Carlo today?

Recommended Posts

My garage/shop is coming along.  It is totally sheeted now and got a couple windows and a door installed.  It is really starting to look good...then I put the Monte in an the building started looking even better.

I'm jealous!  ;)

Looking great, Steve!  The "twins" should feel very loved to live in there!

So, since Dennis sort of let the cat out the bag, I will go ahead and share.  I just bought another triple black 70 SS.  The car is nearly a twin (hence Dennis' reference to the "twins") to the one I already have except it does not have power windows or locks and is in MUCH nicer condition…other than that the cars are virtually identical.  This one is an all original mostly unmolested car with 26,000 original miles. Here is a link to the Craigslist ad.

I decided to buy this one because I can enjoy it (drive it) almost immediately and get started on the restoration of the other one as soon as the building is finished rather than wait for winter to start and then have nothing to enjoy for what will likely be a rather long time.

I would like to thank Dennis for going to look at this car for me and providing me with the assurance it is what the seller claims so that I could buy it.

Congratulations on your purchase of a twin to your other '70 triple-black SS, Steve!   It surely is a nice looking, running and driving survivor! I thought my comment was innocuous enough to let you announce your latest acquisition whenever you wanted - sorry.  BTW, the craigslist ad has been taken down but I assume the seller sent you some digital photos that you could post.  I think it deserves it own thread, especially if you have some photos to post.

Having more than one first gen Monte at one time really adds to the ownership experience, IMO.  With your new building, you can start a collection. Looking forward to seeing more of your latest SS and what your TLC will do for it.

Just touching up & polishing today.   ;)

PS:  Never noticed this before but my vehicle serial number is 536635 and would be correct reading in either direction, forward or reverse.

Also am suspicious my Heater Blower Motor is weak as the flow just doesn't feel like it's strong enough.  Measured the AMPS and RPM of the Motor and compared to brothers 65 Chevy, his fan motor runs almost 700             RPM faster than mine.  I believe I need to replace Fan Motor in car.

Inching along!

I bought Edelbrock fuel rails and they don't match the injector locations???

A little research and I discovered raw fuel rail can be had for $11 a foot. I already own the two drill bit sizes, countersink and tap for -8AN so I just saved a bunch.

I removed the rear 6x9 Panasonic speakers to get prepared to reinstall 8 ohm speakers and the original 8-track. Anyone looking for a pair of  Panasonic 3 way speakers???

Did some work under the old 72 this afternoon. Got the transmission cross member bolt in. Got the little stall speed hooked up. Changed out the front lug nuts for center line lug nuts for the wheels. Thinking of adding a dust shield to the transmission. The lowest thing on the car is the trans pan lol.

Installed a correct trunk release button and got rid of the old one and Works great. During this time I also installed new underhood insulation from the parts place. I must say I'm very pleased with the fit and material. Really great reproduction of the original.

Started the Monte up for the first time this year, pulled it out of the garage to let it idle up to operating temperature. Then put it back into the garage. This has to be the latest in the year to ever do this. Might head up to a local cruise later (Laurel Square).

Less than 2 weeks before the meet and I started taking apart the 71, LOL. I decided to put the factory speaker grills in the car but the aftermarket grills left a mark in the package tray that is visible with the stock grills. I had a package tray handy so out come the rear seat and side panels to swap out the tray. I've had the rear interior out from other first gen Montes many times so I can do it pretty quickly now. When I pulled out the seat I discovered another build sheet is hidden in the bottom of the rear seat. You have to love the Baltimore cars full of build sheets. Also put new chrome bases on the front arm rests and tightened everything up in the door panels.

By the way, for those who have not met me in person before... yes, that is my left hand. LOL

All back together. I lubricated all the window tracks and reinstalled the vapor barrier properly. What else should I take apart before the meet? Haha

How about this Aaron.  Both Steel Inner Fenders removed and had a broken "J" Nut that caused me about 2 hrs of pain before they were finally out.  Cleaned them and then scuffed them for paint I hope Tomorrow  Replaced Heater Fan Blower Motor and brushed POR 15 on both inside of Fenders and other vulnerable area's exposed surfaces for protection.  My battery went dead and thought it was due to the Hood left open.  During the second charging yesterday we couldn't figure out why it keeps discharging and assumed a defective battery as it is fairly new.  While charging I noticed the Dome light was on and assumed one door was ajar.  Both were closed solid so started checking things as I had prior routed the A/C wiring and assumed I did something in the process.  As I was investigating, I remember that happening a few years back and found the passenger side door switch was darn hot when I pushed my finger against it to check if working.  That plunger burned the crap out of my finger tip and at the same told on itself.  Well, just me pushing it with my finger corrected whatever cauised it to malfunction and I forgot about it.  Anyway, I decided I should check that Switch and it had malfunctioned again so today replaced with a new Switch on top of the several different issues I initially had planned.  Long story short, tomorrow Paint Inner Fenders,

Monday I hope to start putting Inner Fenders back in and once done there check the voltage going to the Blower Motor to ensure it is getting what it should need for maximum output.  Don't expect to be completely done until Wednesday or Thursday.  These were the Chevelle Steel Fenders before Monte's were made and required massaging going in.  While fitment will be much improved even after these past 7 or 8 years, looks like some massaging to get em back in.   And again, my assumptions for completion are based on more surprises moving forward.  :k

Went to a car show Saturday the 10th and received this little dish. Really suprised. Glendia was getting worried that we were going to be shut out again. Not me it is just something else we have to keep clean but it was nice to get the recognition.
