LostnFound
Anyone know how many body mount bolts make a complete set for our cars? Is it 8 short and 2 long or 10 short and 2 long? Here's the mounts I'm going with but the hardware listings are clear as mud. http://www.ebay.com/itm/70-72-Chevy-Monte-Carlo-Factory-Correct-Body-Mounts-Rubber-Bushings-Cushions-/200933778544 Thanks, Larry

Sam (Bones)
neither! the 2 long should be for the core support and 12 short for the 12 body mounts 4 at the fire wall 2 under the front seats 2 by the front mount for the lower rear control arms 2 after the hump in the frame behind the axle 2 at the very rear of the frame

LostnFound
In-Line Tube has all the correct mounts and bolts but they don't offer it in one complete kit and the order takers don't seem to know either. I told him..."how the heck would I know, my car is still together and everything on the internet is clear as mud" A complete package including all the correct mounts and hardware would be a good item for Leo to sell. ripleydale
One thing I noticed about the aftermarket hardware kits, is the bolts are smaller in diameter. In other words, they won't work with the existing cage nuts, assuming they are still in working order. I managed to salvage enough original bolts, and used the after market bolts for the cage nuts I had to cut out at the middle of the body. The washers were ok. LostnFound
Hey Kelly, the ones from in-line tube are quoted as being correct in every way including the diameter.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/INLINE-TUBE-A-BODY-MOUNT-CUSHION-HARDWARE-BOLT-BOLTS-KIT-SET-70-72-Monte-Carlo-/390574650327
ripleydale
That does look like a nice kit. Good luck Larry. Hope they all come out nice and easy.
LostnFound
Thanks Kelly, I'm just collecting and stockpiling parts for down the road when the car eventually will come off the frame for a restore of the undercarriage and bottom and then a fresh paint job. It still has never been off the frame. It underwent a partial restoration back in the 80's and at that time some additional options were added like power windows, power locks, and A/C. The single stage acrylic enamel paint job is 30 years old. My goal is to have every part I need by the time the car comes apart which will be several years from now but no more than 10. LostnFound
OK....this has been a little frustrating but Inline Tube and Motorcity Musclecars need to combine all this stuff and offer a package deal but they offer the most correct to OEM parts in my opinion. According to my research, here's what you need to order to get a complete body mount and hardware kit for our 70-72 Montes. This includes all the body mounts and the core support mounts as well as all the needed hardware.... body mounts (12+ 2 solid pucks)...P.N. INL12965 $110.00 core support mounts (2)...P.N. INL11980 $18.00 core support mount hardware kit (2 bolts and hardware)...P.N. INL11922 $22.00 body mount hardware kit (8 bolts and hardware)...P.N. BMK10H $39.00 (2) body mount at firewall hardware kits (2 bolts and nuts and hardware per kit)....P.N. INL11921 $24.00/ea X 2 $48.00 TOTAL $237.00 plus shipping (2 of #5 are needed for the 4 firewall mounts) Please let me know if this list is correct and complete based on your experience. Sam (Bones)
I would go to your local hardware store and buy the bolts, those are outrageous prices for bolts I would also reuse as much of the original bolts and washers as possible
Jared Richey
I agree, Grade 8 or Stainless bolts from the local hardware store. I do not know what grade the factory used, but they can be rung off, especially on rusty cars. No one has ever told me what grade Stainless is, I have always assumed they are strong like Grade 8 or better...They sure are expensive.
LostnFound
I went with the kit and hardware I did because they are closest to OEM out of the ones on the market. I'll always keep this car as OEM as possible.
Leghome
Stainless bolts are no where near as strong as grade 8. I have twisted off mor stainless bolts than I car to remember but now always stop before I get to that point.
