72 Monte Cruise Control cable lenths

Hey guys,

I finally found the correct Cruise Control Servo for my 72 Monte so I can start thinking about adding the factory Cruise incorporated in my car.

I am know interested in knowing what are the lengths of the (2) cables (Speedo & Tranny) that connect to transducer?  I can likely use the original one from speedo to transducer with some consolidation of cable, but would really like to have the correct length.  I don't have the one from tranny to transducer, so need it anyways.

Anybody have this info or a likely source of information?

As always, ideas and suggestions always appreciated.

All have a GREAT day........

I added it to my 71 about 24 years ago and don't have the lengths written down and the car is put away.

I do know that the trans to servo cable has screw on ends at each end. The transducer to speedo is screw on at the transducer and push on at the speedo head.

I have some pics link here:

Yeah, I figured the cable ends out Bruce.  Even a schematic detailing the cable routing (from / too) would be beneficial for me.  I can figure out how to use the existing speedo cable by unscrewing from tranny and probably looping cable to shorten it up to transducer (however, prefer shorter cable).  I flat out need the other!  Maybe I should start searching the Auto bone yards for a Cruise car for the cables.

The Cruise Servo I found came from a full size 71 Caprice and is the exact Servo that would have been factory installed on my 72 if came with Cruise.  As far as the cables, I have no idea if comparable year models cable lengths would do it for me.

Maybe I will give Leo a call and pick his brain.

I will continue visiting the Club site to see if another might have the info I am searching for.

Okay guys, I think I got what I was searching for.  Just did a web search and took me right to it.

FYI - upper cruise control cable length is 41", screw on / clip on style

lower cruise control cable length is 63", screw on both ends.

Don't know why I didn't do this earlier!  :nutz:

Appreciate the help and hope info can be useful to others.

All have a GREAT day.......

Good news on the cable info! I didn't think it had any spare cables but just looked and the one I have is the top one and it measures 44"

With the plastic inner fenders, I had to add a ground wire for mine to work properly. Someone here mentioned his, factory installed, had a built in ground wire.

I purchased a used assembly several years ago (as a spare) from a member but never got it to stop surging so I cleaned the inside of mine and put it back in.

Several years ago my speedo stopped working. The end was broken off because the servo locked up and wouldn't turn. I disassembled the servo, mark first prior to separating the two halves, and got it to rotate again using WD-40 and light oil. I bought a new inner cable and cut it to length. Measure 3 times and cut once. It came with a crimp on square end. This summer it started shaking a bit at low speeds like under 5 MPH, looks like I need to take it apart, clean it up and lube it again!
