Nasblu
Does anyone have a picture of a firewall of a 1970 Monte Carlo that originally had a tach dash and can point out where the hole in the firewall is for the tach wiring.
Sam (Bones)
I can't get a good picture of it, it's a round hole approx 3-4 inches to the left of where the throttle cable goes thru
stangeba
I added the factory gauges from a donor 71 to my 71 24 years ago but ran the wire incorrectly. Three years ago when replacing my heater core I drilled a hole for the wire where I believe it was designed to go. Here are 2 pictures, one inside and one outside. Hope it helps, it worked great for me this way. Bruce

monte70car
Here is a picture of the firewall on my 72, the tach wire should come out close to the throttle cable so it would be the hole down to the right.
Nasblu
I know on 1970 chevelles the hole in the firewall can be different based on the plant the car was built. What is the big hole near the middle of the firewall for under the wiper motor? My one 70 monte carlo is a non AC car and it does not have this large hole in the firewall. Does this larger hole have to do with A/C cars only?
monte70car
That hole is for air cars where the non-air runs across the firewal
overdrive
This is my Van Nuys built '70. It's a factory tach and gauges car. Dan
Nasblu
My Flint built monte factory tach car the tach hole is above the throttle cable below wiper motor. I have seen 70 chevelles built at Flint in the same location. Different plants must have utilized different holes.
