15 x 8 with 4 inch backspace

Recommended Posts

I 've got 255/55/17's on mine with a 4.5" back space. A 4" back space would put it closer than I would like. Now I have about an inch of space between the tire and inside of quarter. My quarter panel has not been modified. I know some have had to roll the inside lip on the quarter to get some tire to clear.

Each car is different and you may be able to get away with it.  I had 275/60-15 in the rear and they rubbed.  I had 255/60-15 on the front and would rub on certain driveways.  I ended up buying new wheels and tires to eliminate all rubbing.  Before I placed the new wheels on I did place the 255/60-15 on the rear and was still real close to the lip.  My wheel lips are not trimmed.

How well do they fit on the back ?

Do i need to go to 4.5 or 5 inch spacing ?

im planning on using a 255 or so

You might barely get away with 4.5" bs on a 255/60 but you will need the full 5" bs if you go up to a 275/60.  I have 275/60-15s on 8" rims with 5" bs on the rear (see first two photos) and I can barely insert the fingers of an open hand between the sidewall and the stock fender lip.  On our Montes, there is more tire room inside the hub surface than outside so wide tires work but only if positioned to the inside with greater than stock back space.

BTW, 255/60-15s on 7" rims with 4.5" bs work on the front (see third photo).  I installed a 1" spacer in each front spring to avoid tire rub on driveway entry.

Jason, what diameter rim are you going with?

I have 15x7" rims with 4" of b.s. on the front of my Monte and 15x8" on the rear with 5" of b.s.

My front tires are 255/60-15's and my back now are 275/60-15's...no rubbing at all. I do have my rear lips trimmed but that was for when I ran 325/50's in the rear.

With the offset I have the front and back wheel have the same appearance on the face because of the wheel widths and different b.s. I chose.

P.S. my signature picture is a whole different set of tires and rims... ;)
