INTERIOR - Clock Removal/Install

I also have a master cutoff switch in the trunk. However, the clock has wires screwed to it so I'm going to run a separate wire from the trunk/switch to the inside for a couple of things that need to be live all the time.

Thanks George, good idea.
Unless we can find clocks that are powered by something else, like a crystal or something.

You'll need to post your e-mail address in your profile first.

As far as the Mrs. goes, try to get her to agree, that we all could be doing alot worse things with our time & money than reading posts, and enjoying our cars.

Just as long as you enjoy each other first!!!

Hope that helps!

Good Luck!!!

Yet another request for the instructions...please...

Also - my instrument cluster is very brittle and is cracked into two pieces and won't support the lights knob/switch.

I can't seem to find a replacement instrument cluster in any catalogs I have not even Year One. Does anyone know where I can get one, or how to go about fixing this?

This isn't in the tech section frown.gif could someone please send me the instructions too? I'm interested in replacing the clock with another gauge.. a tach perhaps...

I'm starting to feel left out here frown.gif . Could someone send me the instructions too? My clock is broken so I've been thinking about replacing it with either a tach or another clock. Thanks

Because I now have a roll bar in my Monte, I had to figure out another way. The guage pannel can be removed without taking the dash out. Find and remove 6? screws, move the wire loom forward, disconnect speedo cable, plug in and clock wire. The guage cluster slips out to the left and while lifting the left side up you can work it out.

Be very careful so that you don't scratch the plastic lens. Maybe you can slip some thin cardboard in there to protect it. The clock wind knob will try to catch on things. You can remove the left top dash bolt to give more clearance. I've done this twice now.

Thanks Ed for these great instructions! I am putting this post in the archive for future use smile.gif

............1st Gen Monte clock removal..........

1. Remove top dash pad, about seven screws.

It's also held on with five clips which attach

windshield side to cowl. Slide it off top of dash,

may require some pulling.

2. Remove driver side speaker.

3. Now exposed is the gauge unit. Disconnect wiring

harness from printed circuit and where it's

attached to dash frame. Disconnect wire from

wiper switch. Disconnect speedometer, a clip holds

it in place. Disconnect clock wire. If car has

column shift automatic trans: disconnect

transmission gear indicator from steering column,

will need to remove 4 screw panel below steering

column.

4. Printed circuit attaches to three separate dash

units. Left unit is 3"x3", above the light switch.

Right unit is 5"x3", above radio. Center unit,

(tach, speedometer, & clock) is 14"x6". You are

only going to pull the center unit and the

right/left units will remain attached to dash.

Remove bulbs from right and left units. Remove one

screw from each right and left units. The printed

circuit remains attached to the center unit.

5. You are now going to take apart the center unit,

removing one part and leaving one part attached to

dash. Remove the 5 screws that attaches outer

section of center unit to inner section of center

unit. Do not remove screws attaching entire center

unit to dash.

6. Remove outer section of center unit. Alone with

it will come the printed circuit with the ends

loose from right and left units.

7. From this point you can remove clock.
