Thought this eBAY Ad would stimulate some conversation.  What do you think?

Those are the ugliest bumper guards I've ever seen in my life. Nice car though.

Beautiful Monte!  Looks like something Darren (LS5) would build ... except for the taxi cab bumper guards!  Those look as out of place on that beautiful car as combat boots on a ballerina!   Fortunately, it would be easy to fix.  Not many original G67 systems still working.  Hard to believe it was shipped with SS454 fender badges but the dealer may have had some pull with Baltimore since it was erroneously ordered as an SS just as the '72 model was coming out..

I believe this is a members or followers car because he emailed a bunch of pictures of this car when we exchanged photos of our customs.what I thought was unique and looks great is the 1999 chevy s10 pickup wheels on it. Looks great actually

First off this is a rare 454 Custom and extremely hard to find. Some people in the club have estimated that there may have only been roughly 100 of these built. Not only that, it is nicely optioned in other respects with the buckets, console, etc. It appears to be midnight bronze which is not a common colour but certainly one of my favorite 72 colour options. As for the SS454 badges, that would be hard to prove. The dealer may have installed those or someone else later on. I see that the load level compressor appears to be the incorrect tank without the cap on the end so it may have been swapped out at one point. It would be interesting to see the build sheet for the load leveling option. That is a rare combination of options on this car.

That is definitely one beautiful car.  Good catch on the color eBay listing confirms you are correct...it looks like black on my monitor.  I had wondered about that compressor/tank as well since others have said the Monte's had the ones with the end caps.

Nice!

Bumper guards may have been added at the dealership, they loved to add junk on back then.

Aftermarket parts, lousy then, lousy now!

Nice car!

Another W -code Midnight Bronze like mine was before it was changed to black....then blue.....

Never seen bumper guards like that in all my years.  As for the SS454 badging - everything else seems legit.  I wonder if there are any early photos of the car that could help verify the story.

It seems like all the included options that came with the 1970 & 1971 SS cars was installed on this car.

This looks like something I would build for sure,  but not with gmc K series truck bumper guards hahaha

it is nice but I am going to guess that the 454 emblems were added by the dealer at the same time the bumperguards were added.

In June of 72 you could start to order your 72 monte carlo as retooling was usually done in the 4th week of june to first week of July and then shipped to dealerships for September sales.

The ss454 Option was Replaced with the Custom Option, key word replaced so ordering a ss454 and a Custom in my opinion could not be done just like NO 4spds carried through into 1972 whether it was an early order or not.

I dont think he is misrepresenting it at all he is just showing what it is and says the dealer installed the Guards back in the day, just most likely the emblems as well. Very nice Monte minus the Combat Boots................  good one Dennis.

Here is a picture of my 72 the day I bought it.  It had the gigantic bumper guards.  The original owner said they were on there the first time he saw it.

Those bumper guards were a dealer installed item, not factory.

This car is up for sale again.  Don't remember how it was priced before but it is certainly at top coin.

I agree it is AT LEAST $10 overpriced.  heck, I may even devalue it an additional $5K for those butt ugly front and rear bumper guards.  Don't get me wrong it is a beautiful car.  If it is  a true survivor with no restoration there has to be a few things that need to be addressed to make it a higher priced car.  In one of the pictures of the interior from the drivers side it looks to me like there may be some issues with the headliner which may be expected but again at that price I would not expect to see that.

Again, it is a beautiful car and I may be letting my mental value of the car's worth be adjusted down because of the false SS badge's and the ugly bumper guards..... makes it look like a taxi

The more I look at this W Code car the more I like it. Yes the bumper guards are huge and removing them means changing out the bumpers front and rear as the holes dont even use the same holes that the smaller guards we are used to seeing use. Cheap cost when you compare that to what a Paint job is worth or a BB engine to find and drop in.

This is actually a really nice 72 and even has a probably one and only air ride system on a W code car let alone a 72 and also note there is NO annoying Fasten Seat belt light and buzzer in this car.

Heck I would take air ride over seat belt buzzer any day hahaha.

it is over priced at 10gs but thats it compared to what you get for 30gs and rare as Aaron has pointed out.

for me the bumpergurds and bumpers need changing with correct ones put on and remove the ss454 emblems and then enjoy the rest for what it is especially air ride on a custom W code car.

I may swap out the Buick style double snorkel air cleaner and put on the factory one and you have one great Western or Eastern Meet cars that would most likely win some awards and have fun with...

Darren.

The seat belt warning light was mandated starting January 1972 so the earlier build 72 Montes did not have them.

I agree. My 72 custom was a November of 71 build....I also do not have the seat belt warning light. My air cleaner also still has a "turbo fire 350" decal. Most 72s don't have that but from what I understand if built in 71 it would have it just like 70 and 71
