Boots
hello all..looking to get back into working on the car again, a question came to me...my car is a 1970 Flint born unit that "came" with the 3 piece rear trunk trim when I bought it. My understanding from past posts is that this trim did NOT come on 70's. There was no indication that there was any damage/accident that the rear may have been cut off and resewn back together...is this something that was added in its prior life ?...any thoughts?...thanks Bill
Canuck
The 1970 Montes only had the thin three piece trim that was just above the bumper.
cny first gen 71
I assume your refering to the trim from a 72? The 3 peice wide trim just below the trunk? I have seen this added to 70s and 71s before just because someone like it. 72 was the only year that came on from factory.
Boots
Soo Aaron it looks like someone added this to my 70? was this a "thing" that people did to these cars ??? I have had to cut out the entire rear panel/body support due to rot..so my new piece that I got from Leo does not have the holes drilled for the rear trim...I do like this trim and would like to add it but is this a big thing ? I don't care what other "regular "people think cause its MY car..but what would other monte owners think ?

Murphy
Hey Bill, I added the wide trim pieces to my 71 and really like the look. I can send pics and instructions when I get home later this evening.....
GatorDog72
Mine's a 72 and was missing the trim piece when I bought it. I don't plan to put one on either, I like the way it looks without one. If you like the way yours looks with the trim, put it on there. I don't worry too much about being "correct" Just do what you think looks cool
Boots
thanks guys...I do like the look, and my rear panel from leo is less than straight, so it will cover up the panel waves..lol...cool is coming in the form of a back half job ...got the trunk cut out and am working chevelle outer wheelhouses into monte ones..presently saving up for axle housing narrow and posi and new axles and disk set-up...Murph I still have the old tail panel that i can use as a model, thanks anyway
Murphy
No problem. When you mount the trim brackets, just measure out locations for holes to be drilled, look at the mount brackets & you'll understand........I had major repairs to the rear panels also. Good luck! monte70car
Your almost there Bill. I'm going to use the double side tape to hold my just in case something happens. Currently it has the two stud clips at the ends holding it on and the fuel outlet in the center.
