71MonteCarloMD
I am putting front end back together after painiting radiator core support with POR15, turned lights on, no lights in headlamp or side marker. Raer lights works so does that means I am dealing with ground issue? If so, where do I start?
stangeba
If it is in the condition as shown in the picture, (no fenders) a lack of proper ground would be my first guess. On my 71 there is a ground wire from the (-) battery terminal to the right fender. Just add a jumper wire from (-) battery to the rad core support and try them again. Good luck! monte70car
Rick did you reconnect the grounds for the front lights back to the radiator support? That would be the only reason I know of them not working.
stangeba
If you look closely, you will see a small ground wire on my right fender.
71MonteCarloMD
Ert, yes I did reconnect the ground wires for headlanps to tge radiator core support. I was not sure if POR paint will cause grounding issue. Bruce, good point as I didnt test lights while fenders were off, will put fenders on next to see if lughts will work. Thanks guys! John S
It helps to use star washers between the wire and the ground. The washer will "dig" into the metal and ensure a good ground. John S
