Mo's70MCs
It shouldn't matter, it's a make or break switch. Or a single pole single throw switch. Or on/off.
Wheel
The switch has like 6 "poles" on it. 2 are for neutral safety, 2 for back up. and 2 for ???, I thought it woild be fairly simple to replace the connectors with loose wires... It isn't.
Mo's70MCs
The one on the steering column? I believe the last two were a clutch safety switch if your car was a standard...I believe, at work now might be able to look at a schematic later when I get home. Murphy
Found this diagram in the Assembly manual (lower left corner show 6 wires) con't find the wiring diagram at this point. Each connector is keyed to only connect at the proper location.....good luck! Monte diagram 01.bmp
RealRed70
You must have a 1972? The two purple wires are for the neutral safety switch. The green and pink or dark green and light green are the reverse light wires. The next two are pink if I remember correctly. They are for the fasten seat belt function/ seat belt warning.
MCfan
Wheel, Here is a page from the 1970 Monte Carlo Wiring Diagram Manual that shows the neutral safety switch on the left side of the page about in the middle vertically. Note that the two wires are purple and purple with a dark blue stripe and they attach differently for an automatic transmission car versus a manual transmission car. It appears that the middle pair of connectors are the correct location for the neutral safety switch wires for an automatic transmission car. BTW, I can send you all 14 pages of the wiring diagram manual as jpg files that you can print full page size. Just let me know what email address to use if you want me to send them.
