Paul Bell
I only see 1970 cars with color matched steering columns. Tan interior, tan column. Green interior, green column, etc. Every 71 & 72 I see the columns are black. Is this correct? Only 1970 cars had color matched columns? Canuck
All 1971/72 steering wheels and columns were black. 1970 Non-SS454 steering columns were the same colour as the interior. 1970 SS454 steering wheels and columns were black. Paul Bell
I'm thinking the various plants chose to paint them or not.
BigdaddyT
Ditto, tan wheel and collum, SS car
Canuck
Well it sounds like some 1970 SS454 cars had a coloured wheel/column. I know that some got a black wheel and column so maybe it depended on the factory.
bigtankjones
Yep. My 1970 Non SS had a Astro Blue steering column until I painted it black. My car came from the factory with Shadow Gray exterior and Astro Blue Interior
MCfan
The steering wheel and column color on my '70 SS also matched the interior color ... black. Another SS myth meets reality? Now all we need to see is an original Monte Build Sheet with Z20 AND LS6 and/or M20 ...
