72 Monte Carlo
My 72 Monte Carlo came with dark green cloth interior on the seats, but I've seen some Monte Carlo's with leather/vinyl seats. Which was more common, the cloth or leather seats?
stangeba
Great question! I have black cloth and don't remember an option for vinyl covers for my seats when I ordered it. My friend had tan cloth in his 71 SS. Bruce
72 Monte Carlo
Also, is there a somewhat economical way of finding a set of correct bucket seats for our Monte's? I have to redo my seats anyway, and I would like to have a set of buckets up front.
MCfan
My 72 Monte Carlo came with dark green cloth interior on the seats, but I've seen some Monte Carlo's with leather/vinyl seats. Which was more common, the cloth or leather seats? I don't believe there is any source of production data for first gen Montes regarding interior color options or materials. There is some information on bucket seats and power seats for 1970 only in our Technical Information section under Production Numbers. You can access the 1972 Monte Carlo dealer sales brochure at this LINK. On page 5 of that brochure it states the following: "The standard upholstery ... is obtainable in five cloth and vinyl combinations. Colors are black, green, blue, pewter or covert. A little extra money buys all-vinyl in black, covert or saddle." BTW, "covert" is light tan in color. Since cloth was standard and vinyl (not leather) was extra cost, I would guess that cloth was more "common" but who knows?

Some of our members who have actually done the conversion can give you the details. The '72 sales brochure says Strato-bucket seats are available in black or pewter cloth or black, green or saddle vinyl.

LS5
Great question! I have black cloth and don't remember an option for vinyl covers for my seats when I ordered it. My friend had tan cloth in his 71 SS. Bruce Hey Bruce, Our cars were only a couple of weeks apart and my 71ss has the Black vinyl bucket seats. I wish I had the Cloth Bucket Seats instead. So or too hot in the summer and in my opinion the cloth is the rare of the two choices and would rather have Cloth. Dennis you forgot to mention the reverse angle for bucket seat donors....... ANY chevelle bucket seats from late 69 to 72 bucket seats will work in our cars instead of the other way around haha bucket seats from an olds or gto or cutlass will also work just different seat covers in 70-72. 72 Monte Carlo
Any update Mike? Also, is there a vendor that makes factory correct replacement cloth seat upholstery for the 1st Gen Monte's? All I see in OPGI is vinyl, but my 72 has cloth seats. Joker_USAF
I got my cloth seats (dark green) from Legendary.
overdrive
I got cloth bucket seat covers from C.A.R.S. Inc. and I think they are great quality. I always thought the cloth seats were probably more expensive from the factory, since the cloth covers today are higher than the vinyl. 72 Monte Carlo
I went to Legendary interiors website, and for a GM A body 68-72, they only show Chevelle, Malibu, and SS as an option to pick from. http://www.legendaryautointeriors.com/catalog/products.html?make=CHEVROLET (A-BODY 68-72)&model=CHEVELLE/MALIBU/SS (68-72)&year=1972&nav_cat=UPHOLSTERY %26 TRIM ACCESSORIES&class=SEAT UPHOLSTERY-CHEVROLET Is that the correct website? I didn't think the Chevelle interior was the same as the Monte Carlo.

If you want to shop from their site do the following to find your upholstery: Search bar top right type “monte carlo” Categories bar on left choose “Upholstery & Trim Accessories” Categories bar on left choose “Seat Upholstery-Chevrolet” If you are wanting to stay with cloth seats, look for the items that say "Cloth". If you want to stay with the dark green interior (like I did) here is what I ordered: □ AA72GMC0020467G 72 MONTE CARLO CLOTH SPLIT □ AA72GMC0048467G 72 MONTE CARLO CLOTH HTP REAR □ DO71GM00012465G 72 MONTE CARLO FRONT DOOR - 13 DARK GREEN CARPET ON PANELS □ DO71GM00048465G 72 MONTE CARLO REAR PANELS -
