Jeff,

I found a few photos of my '70 SS that might help.  Some were taken before I mounted the load level compressor, some were after.  See thumbnails below.

Paul, it has a rear bracket, just not that "over-the-valve cover" version.  I have attached three photos from my load level compressor bracket pilot project that partially show the rear AC bracket coming up under and along the side the compressor.  I don't have any better photos and the car is in storage in MN right now but I seem to remember that the rear bracket bolts directly to the head below the valve cover and above the exhaust manifold although it might bolt partially or completely to the manifold.

I didn't realize there was another version of the rear bracket until I saw the photos you and Bruce shared.   Frankly, I prefer the one I have (wherever it came from), because it allows an unobstructed view of that big block valve cover.  Also, no need to remove the AC bracket to remove the valve cover.  Maybe this is a case where practicality trumps originality (at least for me)?

Dennis, I agree about the bracket over the top. I would have rather had the other because the clearance is tight. The Parts Place shows a 1st design for 1970 and 2nd design for 1971-1972. I wonder if they used the 2nd design on some 1970 Montes...

Wow, I could have sworn my 70 350 had a lower and upper rear bracket.  I will have to look next time I am up at my car but that will need to wait for now because I am restricted to the house for right now with bronchitis and maybe pneumonia, waiting for the results of the chest xray.

  • 4 weeks later...

I have a few of these brackets left over for my SS Car I sold a few years back and I will not be needing them if anyone needs a couple extras.

They are not doing me any good

My 1970 SS has both the over the valve cover bracket and the lower bracket.
