Katman
I'm putting my 8 track back in and the holes were cut at some point. The right side hole is a bit too big so the 8 track wants to dip about a 1/16 of an inch on the right. I'm using the metal cup inserts and need ideas on how I can fix that right side hole so that the cup sits at the top of the hole. I thought about cutting out a round piece of material slightly smaller than the hole and using goop to glue it to the back side of the dash. I'll try to post pictures so you know what I am talking about. In the third picture which is a bit blurry, you can see that hole is slightly larger.
Blackhawk
I would think that a two-part epoxy would bridge the gap and hold everything in place without any issue. I've used it to repair the broken mounting studs on newer mirrors, it holds pretty well unless they get hit again by a carwash or somebody hip checking them in a parking lot. Do you have a support strap from the back of the 8 track to the metal frame of the dash? That should make the unit move less.
Katman
The L shaped bracket is attached to the back of the 8-track and that helps but it still wants to slide down to the bottom of the hole. It doesn't move much but figured it will when the car is back on the road. Since the dash is out, now would be the time to fix it. I'm not sure what a two part epoxy is. Is that something they sell at NAPA Auto Parts?
Blackhawk
They should have this or something similar at any auto parts store or hardware store: https://www.jbweld.com/collections/plastic-composite-pvc/products/clearweld-syringe Make sure that it works with metal and plastic if those are your two surfaces. RealRed70
Walmart sells two part epoxy as well. Just sayin.
mr7tmonte
Hi Katman, I have a 1970 Monte Carlo (I am the original owner) and at some point in my youth cut out the cups in the dash to install a more modern radio. I would now like to install a classic look alike radio with modern features. Where did you get the replacement cups?

mr7tmonte
Thank you Blackhawk--great information! I found a post by Dean on the second link which provided another link to diagrams and procedures for replacing the cups: http://macc.chevelles.net/dash_repair.pdf I'm now considering a lower priced temporary fix with a modern radio which fits in the currently configured dash (no cups) and new speakers. From previous postings, it appears that finding replacement dash speakers that fit (particularly on the driver's side) is a challenge. I'm considering the 3.5" R-352N Retrofit Speaker or the Kicker 43DSC3504 ( Any suggestions for these or rear speakers which I think would be 6" X 9?" I had cups - did not have to replace them. One of the holes was slightly enlarged so I used some Permatex Steel Weld to tighten up the fit. Kept the cup in place while it dried. It has a nice tight fit now.
