The wrong build sheets

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever found the wrong build sheet in their car?

I recently bought a 70 Monte and when I bought it the guy told me he found the build sheet under the back seat.. well that wasn't for that car, it was about 30 numbers off. so I didn't care I went ahead and bought the car anyway. I was tearing it apart today and I found another build sheet that was underneath the front driver seat. It also does not match the car.

so I was thinking well somebody's replace the seats in it and that was a build sheet that came with the seat.

however that's also incorrect because it's a bench seat and the build sheet is for bucket seats.

my car is only 5 numbers off of the 2nd build sheet. Anyone else have any experiences like this?

Yes, in my front seat was a build sheet for another car. This was not uncommon but I have only seen or heard of the wrong build sheets being found in seats, not other places in the car but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen.

Both of our Montes had 2 build sheets in them. One that was correct for the car, and another for an earlier car. Our '70 had a sheet in the backrest of the driver side bucket seat for a car with the same interior, but with a VIN about 70 numbers lower. The right sheet was in the back seat, under the seat cover, not stuffed underneath, in the springs. I recently had a guy tell me he found his in the same place. It's the only other one I've heard of that was inside the rear seat.

My Baltimore built 70 has one under the seat cover of the lower back seat. I would have to remove the cover to get it out in one piece. I have new seat covers for the rear but it does not need to be done yet.

Are you saying you can see it when looking at the seat springs? If so, mine was not visible until I took the seat apart. It was above the burlap and the jute padding, but under the foam pad. This pic was taken when I found it and before I touched it.
