What about cleaning chrome?

Recommended Posts

We have a wax thread going but I have a real hard time cleaning my trim rings and center caps. I have the original caps wrapped up (too easy to swipe) and I got a set of rings and caps with my new wheels. I can't get them clean!!! yeah, yeah, vinegar, etc. doesn't work and then i smell like a pickle. Any suggestions? The set is not of the highest quality.

Thanks - Haze

actually there is a product called bombs away this stuff does an amazing job on chrome, aluminum, stainless etc. it is well worth the price plus you dont need to use alot of it to polish anything my step dad used 10 milliliters to do his whole motorcycle.

I have found Mothers to be the best for any kind of chrome or aluminum.

I agree, I even polish plastic headlight covers with it... wink

Most of the time the trim rings are made of stainless and then flash chromed. There isn't much you can do other than clean the chrome; you can try a product like Mothers or Nevr-Dull, or any aluminum polish and find that your rag doesn't even turn black when you rub those surfaces....that is a good sign that the piece has a coating or plating that the polish isn't working on.

You can easily remove the flash plating so you can polish the bare stainless, but the process will eat away the anti-rust plating on the retaining clips.

It's a toss-up. If you are interested, I can instruct you how.

neverdull is the best

unless you can find wizard metal polish, its like neverdull but has a more agressive polish to it. It works better on alluminum than neverdull but is harder to find.
