1972 402 u code help

Recommended Posts

hello, I just picked up a monte carlo72 u code matching numbers. Seems it was ordered with the air leveling shocks. I only have part of the build sheet. I would like to know if that is a rare item for 72? it has the shock shield protectors and sway bar. the pictures show the level switch mounted to upper control arm. I am able to look behind vinyl top and see three holes in sail panel. I'm guessing the custom emblems have two extra holes, so there should be 5 holes for the emblems? trying to rule out if it is a custom. seems like a special order with air level shocks?

Keith,

Looking at your pictures I would say unfortunately I don't think it is a Custom.  Two of the things that would lead me to believe this is the Custom Package came with a Sport Mirror and yours is a chrome and the package also came with the belt moulding which is the moulding that is about 3/4 to an inch wide and runs the length of the the side windows and though I can't see this area very well it does not appear this moulding is present.

The custom did come with a heavier duty suspension but the air suspension was not part of that but could be ordered as an option but that option could be ordered on any of the first gen Monte's as it appears is what happened with yours.

You can go here:   for more information on the Custom Package.

On another note, it is not too late to make plans to bring your Monte to Carlisle Pa for the Eastern Meet and let us all see her.

Thanks for the input Rob. There is a hole in the drivers door panel for a remote style mirror. It appears to be the original interior guessing because the build sheet has vin number on it, maybe they changed mirrors out, I will pull mirror and see. the door could have been replaced. I had 2 custom small block cars before, neither had the belt moulding on top of the doors, maybe they were removed at some time also. I will check to see if those were removed from screw holes on the inside.i,m guessing its not because the three holes for the sail panels emblems, the air ride leveler sound cool, but is it going to be worth putting it back together? how much do the air compressor and shocks cost to replace?i,m sure theres a better coil over shock or something that will make it handle better?  If I can find time to bring it to the show,i will.

If it were an SS Monte I would say it would for sure be worth finding a compressor for it because you already have so much of the system still intact.  Yes, you can get the compressors but they are costly.  Bob (lastss) may have one for sale but I am not sure.  I have seen the air ride on a number of Non-SS Monte's but it is not a common option on them.

Yes Robert , I will probably get those from you. trying to get ready for the ocean city car show. I hope to run into some monte members there.

Come to our Eastern Meet in Carlisle, Pennsylvania next month and I guarantee you will meet some members there. You can contact me for more information. Time is running low to get registered.
