hello

getting back into my 71 after haitus

whats the best place to buy specific parts for our first generation montes

(parts other than the generic items we can get at any auto store)

i have an old original parts group catalog, is this one of the main go-to places or are there others to consider.

at the moment i am looking for the rubber that goes around the rear windows and possibly a new headliner and carpet.

thanks

Welcome back.  There is a good list of new and used parts sources on or web site by clicking on the Parts tab so check that out first.  I suppose most of us have our favorites from the various sources of specialty parts suppliers, usually based on our personal experiences over the years.

I have personally had the best experience with The Parts Place Inc.  They stock good quality parts and their prices are among the best available for many first Gen Monte parts.  Their shipping time and costs are reasonable, although they don't quote them until they actually ship and then include them on your invoice.  Their on-line catalog is not very detailed and they don't always have pictures of the parts so you need to know what you want and describe it accurately.  I always call them before I place an online order if there is any question about an item.  Also, they don't carry some of the more esoteric parts so you may have to go to Year One, Lutty'sAusleys or elsewhere to find them.

I have also tried other sources including OPGI.  With the exception of two transactions, all of my other experiences with OPGI have been not so good.   They are often out of stock but you don't know that until after you order.  Their prices tend to be among the highest and there are known errors between the pictures they show and the description of the actual parts they are selling.  Since they are in California, shipping anything to the east coast is going to take a week minimum, usually longer (IF they have it in stock!).

Of course, you should check out the specialty suppliers if you're looking for interior items, trim pieces or some rubber parts.  I'm sure others will chime in with their preferences, also.  Good luck.

Another vote for The Parts Place..... He has a lot of Monte stuff the others don't carry. I like Year One, always quality stuff but they overcharge on the shipping.

Had a few bad experience with OPGI so they are not one of my choices.

I use the Parts Place almost exclusively. I have bought stuff form Lutty's but that usually happens at Carlisle.  I have used OPGI a couple of times without any problems except the cost of shipping and their prices are somewhat higher.
