Rims and tires

Recommended Posts

Just curious to hear what people are running for rims and tires on their Montes.

Rim size/back space tire size

Trying to make a choice on wheels but I need to make sure of proper offsets. Looking at doing 17's or a staggered 18 rear 17 front.

Thanks everyone

Myself and Steve Levanti (Monteman1971)  use this set up.  Will need some of the extra metal trimmed off the rear wheel lip.  Basically just trimmed back to the edge of chrome wheel opening trim in most cases.

Running

Front 17x8     w 4" bs        Tires:  255/50/17 -27.09h 10.43w

Rear  17x9,5  w 5.5" bs     Tires:  275/50/17 -27.87h. 11.18w

Trick is you can really only have 4" of rim front of center on our cars without rubbing.  These sizes are about as wide as you can go for rims/tires.

If you want to run an !8' set up use the same width/backspacing on rims ........... but choose tires that are no larger than the ones listed above in height and width.

Good Luck

Hey Chris, Just like Dan and Steve. I am running 17x8's on the front with a 4 inch offset and a 245-45-ZR17 on the front

on the rears with ZERO rubbing and didnt have to cut anything off the rear 1/4's at all on either side a 17x9.5 with a 5.5 Inch offset,

with a 275-40-ZR17.   The tires are key.... the more sidewall bulge the more of the rear quarter you have to trim off.

17x8 4" BS on the front..... I forget the tire but its 26.5" tall.

17x9.5 with 5.5" BS on the rear. Rear tire is 295/45 17 drag radial. It's section width is 11.6 and it's 27.2" tall. Unfortunately, Mickey Thompson has discontinued them so next time I'm going to have to go a little taller 27.8".

As Darren said, because the section width is greater I needed to trim the inside lip a little more than an 1/8 inch, almost up to the top screw for the wheel well trim.....just a little grinding.
