48 years ago today!

48 years ago today I picked up my new 71 Monte Carlo from Bill Fox Chevrolet in Rochester Michigan. I remember it well but there is a sad memory, my new car had two dents in the roof (probably from the car above on the car hauler and a dent in the very front, tip, of the hood.

I did take it back after a week of fun for repairs but still made me very angry!

The weekend after I took delivery I drove it and 5 of my family members to Cleveland, Ohio to visit my brother. I also remember driving South on I-75 almost into Ohio when my dad asked me how fast I was going. I replied 80 and about 2 minutes later I got pulled over for speeding!

Good times!

Very cool. What were your choices in 71 of cars. how did the Monte prevail. Looking back and I think I would have selected the Monte also. I think the Monte stands alone leaving the chevelle in 2nd. then i dont know what would be 3rd, impala maybe the camaros just didnt do it for me that year. Being an original owner is a badge on its own.

So awesome you still have the car. My dad worked for a Chevy dealer when I was a kid and I remember when the Montes came in on the transports. They have always been one of my favorite Chevrolets. Enjoy your anniversary!!!!

Antoine, my brother in-law worked for Chevrolet at the Warren, Michigan Tech Center and brought home company cars all the time. He had a blue Camaro Z-28 that I loved! I was all set to order a 71 Camaro R/S (loved the open grill) with the 350 4 BBL when I was advised to check what insurance would cost me. WOW it was going to be very high! My brother in-law then brought home a 71 Monte and I went with him as he ran some errands. First off the Monte had a 4 speaker stereo where the Camaro didn't, MONO only. I then checked the ins and it was much less (for a 17 year old boy) so I order a 71 Monte Carlo with the options I had money to pay for. The rest is history.

Bruce, that is great , i will have my monte for 40 years on 6/15/20, i remember looking out my parents bathroom window at my monte in 1980 in the next door neighbors driveway saying to myself ,that some day that will be my car, Tom worked in michigan for gm also and ordered the monte and traded in a 1970 corvette lt1 350 ,with 350 horse ,to start a family, he wanted the room that a monte has ,hence the non power windows, etc.

Yes, I have several times. My brother lives in Schwartz Creek and has had his 1937 Dodge pick up and 1963 Triumph TR-3B in the show a few times.

Bruce, You should consider bringing it to the 2020 Eastern Meet for the 50th Anniversary of the Monte Carlo at the Chevrolet Nationals in Carlisle, Pa next year.  It would be a great addition to the show because I am working with them to feature the Monte Carlo for the 50th year anniversary.
