Heckeng
Finally, it's my turn! This is my car, with a 454, small hydraulic roller cam, hooker headers, and 3" flowmaster 50-Series exhaust that ends right before the rear end. Â Soon, I'll have 3" Spintech to share with you. I hope it sounds good too, but maybe quieter inside the car!
502ci
Okay...after fighting a dead battery, the cold weather, then it started to snow I managed to get some video of my exhaust note.  Half way through the video when I'm inside the car I opened my electric cut-outs so that's why it gets louder...  One thing I noticed is how the video doesn't pick-up how deep it really sounds...  I didn't notice till later the exhaust spit some moisture at the camera...  Bill    [size:14p.../size]
502ci
Here's part 2 of my exhaust...starts out the same but I take the camera in the car and open the electric cut-outs, then finally close them at the end.  I'll admit I don't like the raspy sound when I rev it towards redline...but then again I never really rev it...at part throttle and idle it sounds best in my opinion.  Bill  Monte sound clip no.
502ci
I like the way it sounds with the cut-outs. Do ya pick up anything at the track with them? David  Almost a 1/10th with them open...car is consistent so I have tested it on several occasions and always the same result.  It's more for the fun factor when pulling into a car show...  Bill
Guest 71SSMC
Had the day off so I went out and made a quick video of mine. Â I have shorty headers with 3" pipes into 40 series flowmasters and 2 1/2" tails, stock SS tips. Â
Heckeng
I finally got the Spintech mufflers put on. I must say I'm pretty disappointed in them. They are the Sportsman Street mufflers, which according to Spintech, would be comparable to the 50 series Flowmasters I had on originally. They are notably louder, and I have massive and numerous resonance issues. At idle, I have way more resonance than with the old Flowmasters. I also have some sort of natural frequency thing going on at 2200 rpm that actually shakes the whole car when the rpms go through that specific rpm. I'm sure this is an application specific problem, but annoying just the same. Also, when under load, it gets REALLY loud, and it sounds very "blatty", like cheap glasspacks. I called Spintech to see if they could do anything to help, and since I'd welded them up, I am out of luck. They did try to sell me some resonators to add to the system though . I already ordered a new set of Flowmaster 50 Delta series to put on instead. I put the Flowmaster video and the Spintech video on this post so it's easy to compare.  3" Flowmaster original 50 series exhaust
Heckeng
The spintechs might be really good on the dyno, but I'll compromise what performance gain there is for liking how it sounds again  On a more positive note, I did put cutouts on this time. That way at the track I don't have any restrictions. The last time I was at the track, the flowmasters only added a tenth of a second to the ET. I can live with that. footballubet
Ok. After listening to all these videos, I finally got mine running and a video of it. Â The exhaust is a Pypes 2 1/2" stainless system with an X pipe and Street Pro mufflers. Now don't all you Torque Tech guys beat me up, but for over $200 difference, I just couldn't see it. HarrisQ
I know it said with exhaust but I couldn't help it. Have exhaust on it now but no video. Anyway, 414 BBC with open headers. [/img]
ChevroletR
Wow, all you guys have awesome sounding Montes. Looks like I need to fill that extra engine compartment up of mine with some BIG BLOCK! Heckeng--your Monte sounds MEAN! I love it! Here's my $50 exhaust: http://s138.photobucket.com/albums/q267/...packExhaust.flv  Was suppose to be a "temporary" exhaust until I can afford a nice 3'' Flowmaster setup...but it's been kinda "permanant" for the last three years. These are restrictive 2 1/4'' full pipes, no crossover with Thrush Glasspacks on my fairly low compression (9:1) 383, 1 5/8 Patriot mid-length Clipster headers, GM Iron 2.02 heads...that's about all that really affects sound that I can think of. Cam is in signiture. You either love them or hate them, but for $21.99 ea, they're hard to pass up. This past June in Gettysburg, PA, I won a muffler rapping contest at a Kustom Kemps car show (my dad's taste). I got the most applaud up against a flathead with open headers and some about 10 other cars...was pretty cool! Enjoy!

502ci
any one got 40's on a big block??? trying to get an ideal on how loud the elkie is goin to be before we fire it up. Â Rob, my mufflers are 2-Chamber Race Delta Flow 40 series mufflers, I got them like 6 years ago from Torque Tech. They still list them on their site but I cannot find them on Flowmasters site...they might not make them anymore. Â The dimensions on them are...4"x 9 3/4"x14, weighing in at a mere 9 lbs. Â I see when I posted my video clip I didn't mention they were the 40 series model...keep in mind these are 3 1/2" diameter tubes so that does have an impact on the deepness they will emit. Â Here's a quick LINK Â Bill
MADMAC
Turn your volume down! Â Â I was at the Nationals in SA today, and heard a mean Monte.I took the video home and found a clip of last years Nats and this Monte sounded a little better.(So I went w/ last years video... ) Â
Cali4nia Monte
Wow that last one's a hard one to follow. Â We have Doug's shortie headers, Flowmaster 40 series with a crossover and 2.5" pipe dumps out right in front of the differential.
Cali4nia Monte
No tailpipes...Mike has the exhaust ending right at the diff. Although we are not sure were gonna leave it like that because we've got some issues with a strong exhaust smell in the car. Its always worse with the windows down obviously but were wondering if the reason we smell it so bad inside right now is because we have no interior in...all we really have in the car right now is seats. So if after we get our fatmat, carpet, and door panels in we still have the strong smell then we will probably have to extend the exhaust farther out the back.
