Hp is expensive :)

Recommended Posts

I have been wanting to put a turbo on my big block and was thinking that I would get it done over this winter... I just figured out how much its going to cost to get the turbo and turbo stuff and the fuel stuff I need and its about $2200 bucks plus whatever its gonna cost me to modify my carb for blow through. I could get a cheaper turbo and not run as much boost and it would be about $1700 but Id rather spend the little extra money and have the power on hand if I ever want it smile

I am still going to put a turbo on it but I am thinking its gonna be next winter not this winter frown Oh well... Ill have to settle for 12's for now I guess... Unless anyone wants to contribute to the Tom needs a turbo fund whistlelaugh

On the plus side though after I get the turbo I want I will have an 800 HP capable car smirkdevil

that's only the beginning eek wait 'til you find out how much more you'll have to spend to make the rest of the car handle that kind of power, not to mention what else needs to be done to it for racing eekeek

Jared's riceburner is taking donations also.

Well let me start from the beginning...

I'm going to build me a big block on a 2500-3000 budget. I'm going to put 1st gen monte back to the bigtime...

Fast Forward about 1 or 2 later. I now have my dream engine...one that retails for around $12,500. eekahhhh. what happened to that 3000?

(Those turbos will require strenthening of the bottom end...)

Oh by the way. That rearend retails for another $3500...that will be here most likely spring of next year.

Quickly I found out HP is expensive...that Pro-Charger I'm going to buy one these days. But that'll be another 1-3 years.

Then I can have my 1000 HP instead of 600.

Did I mentiong that system would be another $3000 +. lollol

So my concluding statement is I'm going to have one of the fastest cars in anderson county that can be drove on the street. My back pocket is hurting greatly. lol

Maybe me and you can race one of these days Tom?

By the way Tom. How much HP do you have now? and what gear?

Eventually, you have to step back, look at the car, and think. . . How did I get here?

I don't think I've ever really had a good vision of where my cars have ended up. It just sneaks up on you!

im gna hv to do different pistons and maybe cam for that

Deffinetly a lot of things to do to beable to handle any kind of "real" HP smile So far while I was doing the engine I built it for a power adder so the engine is good, the trans I just had done to handle the big block and a power adder, the rear end is a light concern because so far I have only redone the suspension and axles. Oh and I got a 4" chromoley drive shaft with 1350's... Need atleast an 8 point to strengthen the car....

Right now I dont know for sure what kind of power Im putting out.... but its enough for a 12.5 with a 2 sec 60' foot and only reving to 5k RPMs.... and a 3.31 rear gear....

Its a street car so I dont want it to be to rediculus... granted 800 hp is a little rediculus... but what the hell smile

The turbo Im looking at should start making boost about 3000 RPMs and be at full boost by 4000 RPMs... little laggy but I want it that way and besides with the converter itll need to rev that high anyway smile

The converter is also set up for a power adder by the way, anti ballooning plates and billet.....

We'll see what happens smile

I will prolly switch to the 3.73's later on unless it does well enough at the track with the 3.31's still...

Gonna cost alot more than $3000...with an F1 and a intercooler you will be pushing it to get 1000hp and it max's out at 1050hp, the F1-R with an intercooler will easily get you there and it max's out at 1300hp. You are looking at $5100 to $5500 and that doesn't include the carb you will need.

I have been looking at the F2 for a long time and that one runs $6600... eeklol

Dont mess with the super chargers... you can do a turbo a lot cheaper and upgrade the turbo as you go if you want.... and you can buy parts a little at a time so it doesnt hit you as bad.. basically the way I have built my entire car.. smile

I'll be out of school in a few years, working full time...still living at home. It'll happen! eekdevil

I would like to go with a Turbo...BUT I was told you would need to strengthen the bottom end more. I really don't want to have to pull my engine back out.

You dont need to strengthen the motor any more for a turbo than for a supercharger... its all boost.... what else can you do to your bottom half that you didnt do? I have forged crank, forged H-beam rods with the good ARP bolts, forged pistons and main studs.....

What do you have in your bottom end?

  • 2 weeks later...

I have Forged Pistons and Rods, and a Steel Crank rated for 900 HP. smile Also the ARP bolts.

I've been looking into a Pro-Charger, and will buy one in the next few years after the rear-end is complete.
