Plug wire dilemma

Recommended Posts

Ok,this is probably going to sound pretty lame, but as hard as i have tried,I cannot find the plug wires I am looking for.Not at JEGS,SUMMIT,or anywhere. The auto parts stores can't help for whatever reason frownWhat i need is a set of HEI plug wires for a big block with 45 degree angle plug boots. The 90 degree ones i have now are being melted by my headers. Please help!

Well I just got off that road that your on with spark plug wire. I dont think they make 45deg plug wire boots but i might be wrong. This is what I found

1) With 90deg boots on cast iron BB heads with hooker or even summit headers the boot will rest on the header flange no matter what---result does not work...

2) with the accel wires with the straight no angle boot (or 180deg) the wires will not be able to plug into cyl 4,6, and 8 because it'll be right on the header pipe or wont even go in cause its in the way. this is what I dealt with hooker comp header long tubes.

3) with the Taylor 135deg wires i found them to have the perfect angle and I was able to plug them right in all cylinders with no promblem. even on cyl 4, 6, 8. However even though they dont touch they are close and get pretty warm so I would throw some of those protective boot insulation covers they sell. heres a link to the wires I bought that work with Hei. they even come with an extra wire if have an external coil you want to use it.

(thanks Sam)

What you are looking for are the 135 degree boots like mentioned above. People call them 45 degree though. They are the same thing, just measuring the angle from a different side of the plug wire.

Probably any 135 degree boot will work, but I prefer the taylors too.

Taylor 135's here. No burning issues since. Contrary to popular belief boot protectors can build up heat inside and melt your boot/wire without you even being able to see/smell it. Even with Taylor's #6(I think) was still resting on a header primary tube. Used a wire tie to lift it off and anchored it to the dip stick bracket. Got to love those wire ties.

I'm buying the 135's next time. Right now I run the 90's but had to run the wires under my headers (between the block and header). I like the look though cause the wires are hidden but it worries me. Had to use a boat load of wire ties.
