Netural Saftey and Back up light wiring

Hey folks!

 

Still trying to fight the cold & rain and finish up this column and floor shifter project.

 

Does any one know the wire colors on the harness that connects to the steering wheel for the following:

 

Neutral safety switch

 

Back up lights.

 

Also my switch panel I am installing, has a toggle that can be used to control the ignition and a push to start button, I was considering just by passing the OEM Neutral safety switch and wire the new B&M shifter's NSS directly to the starter via the switch panel?

It would serve the same purpose would it not?

 

Doing this would mean the ignition key would only be used in the column to unlock the column more or less, and I wouldn't be using a key to start the car any longer...what do you think?

Monte's NSS wiring is Purple, and Purple with a white stripe.

I know the digrams say blue, but they aren't. (At least in the dozens of wiring harnii I sorted thru at leos, every single one was purple)

 

If you are going to use your switch panel to start the car then that's the best idea.. run the wire from the push button down to the NSS on the B&M and then on to your starter

If you are changing from column shift to console shifter, just wanted too make sure that you are aware of additional wiring harness. There is a wiring harness under the carpet coming from under the dash that connects to the back-up lights and neutral safety switch.

This is getting worse by the second here, finding a ton of cut wires and splices, and running into headaches getting the coupler joint to go onto the column ...is there a difference in the number of splines on these columns?

 

Also has anyone ever had one of these steering shaft assemblies apart? I'm not able to get the shaft back into the rag joint section it simply will not go back in, I'm thinking about heating the rag joint section with a torch to get it to expand enough to put the two shafts back together...Bad idea ?

The Rag joint and shaft that fits inside of it just will not go back together, I've even stripped it to bare metal and no go, it has to be in one way or the other and neither way wants to go...

 

Right now I'm to the point I've wasted so much time just trying to get the steering back together I'm considering a flaming river set up.

 

I'm running out of time and I can't have the car where it can't be moved for 6 months.

 

As far as the wiring, it's going to probably wind up in a shop, it looks pretty bad under there, there's splices and cuts, dead ends, etc just about everywhere. I'm surprised anything inside of the car is still working to be honest...Oh happy day.
