Inaugural FGMCC Western Meet in Nevada

Canuck

Recommended Posts

Well it looks like there are 6 members confirmed for the Western Meet as of now.

Myself

David Mau

George Lines

Wallaby

Dick (new member)

Cameron (new member)

There are also others that are considering it still.

I tallied up the votes on what activity to do on the Saturday night and...

We're goin' racin'!

We will be doing parade laps around the local race track and we will also get to see the stock car races that evening. Talk about a great photo opportunity with our Montes on a stock car racing track. Dick is an avid photographer so we should be able to get some nice shots (no pressure Dick. LOL). If I recall, Dave likes a little photography himself. I can't wait!

If there is anyone else coming who has not notified me yet, please let me know. Thanx smile

Are any of the new members from Sacramento or making the trip though here? I will have my digital camera with me and the panorama one.

I just got off the phone with the organizers of the event.

The race tickets: They will only be handing out tickets to people that are in the Montes (registered in event) doing the parade laps. I will not just be able to ask for a bunch of tickets. So, whoever wants to see the race will have to be in one of the three Montes. If there is only 12 of us in total, it shouldn't be too bad... as long as George and Wallaby don't mind having folks in the back seat of their cars. If some of you have more people in your party, it might be harder to do and we may choose a different activity for the evening.

Another option for Saturday is to do the parade laps at the track and then head over to the party at Virginia City. This seems like it would be the best of both worlds. We still may need to cram all the members in the 3 registered cars for the cruise maybe. We can work that out when the time comes.

If we discover that the race thing seems too complicated to do, we can just do the Virginia City deal. Both options are fun and, either way, it'll be a great night.

I also asked about photos at the track, she said that there is a place where a couple of us can get out and take photos of our Montes driving around the track.

Two weeks from today, April and I will be heading down to Dave and Janet's place to start the trip. Looking forward to it!

I know that there is a guy from the Sacramento area entertaining the idea of going to the meet. The panaramic camera may come in handy too for a shot with all 3 montes in it together. I'll be bringing my digital as well. smile

It all sounds great, Aaron! Either activity or a combination of the two is fine with Janet and myself. With the great photo opportunities I'll definately be taking my 35mm and its various lenses, and we'll most likely take our Mini DV camcorder on the trip, too.

It's been a really busy and hectic time ever since the kids got out of school in June (like it wasn't hectic before - LOL), so I just hope that we've got the house half-way in order by the time you and April show up in a couple of weeks! LOL

I don't have a back seat. That part is still under consruction (sound system). I can put people in there though. I do want to do a parade lap and see the race.

Bad out of control forest fire going on somewhere near Carson City. Don't know what effect that may have on the Western Meet or how soon they may begin to get it under control. Will keep everone posted.

This should be exciting! The Eastern meet gets thunderstorms, and the Western meet gets a forrest fire!

The fire started three days ago and is reported to be 30% contained. A dozen homes have been destroyed, and they were located less than 3 miles from the hotel where we will be staying. More than 20 aircraft are helping to battle the blaze.

I figure that if they contain 30% in three days, then the fire will be under control in another week. On the bright side (?) the smoke in the air will make for some beautiful sunsets, and the sky will be full of vintage aircraft. I might have to go up there early. LOL

This evenings news update is that the fire is 85% contained with full containment by Tuesday. smile

I just got off the phone with my wife. She said that our thermometer is showing 94 degrees on our back porch - which is on the north side of the house and in the shade. WHEW! I'd say that we're already getting a taste of that hot Carson City weather, alright! eek LOL

Our thermometer says 94 also. It's much hotter than normal in the Northwest. The temps in Reno for the next week are between 96 and 98 degrees. eek

Sounds good to me, though. It was 102 yesterday... when I get there maybe I'll be interested in one of those club jackets! HaHa

Did I read somewhere that there was request for a ice cooler for under the tent lounging? I have one that I can bring if needed.

I'm bringing a small cooler for drinks and snacks myself. A larger cooler might come in handy but I have run out of space. If we each bring our own small cooler, that should work. smile

I hope you all have a great time at the western meet. I was trying to make it as a surprise, but with everything going on at the homefront it just was not possible.

Working hard on last minute stuff. Problem is that I can't find one of the door bottom moulding end clips. I have plenty of plastic ones. I have 2 extra screws but no clip. If someone making the meet could bring one for me, I will gladly replace it when I get one. That way I can intall the last moulding piece when we get there. My new 72 came with none of this moulding
