Andreas
For all of you Modifiers and maybe some who have done it already (you have my sympathy): I have started the venture yesterday to install a B&M Megashifter in my bench-seat Monte. So far, I have it bolted down to the tranny tunnel and preliminary routed the cable. Getting these nuts in with the tranny installed is a real pain (I did not want to drop the tranny). At least I could test-shift yesterday without being hooked up to the tranny. Damn, that thing feels good! I will keep y'all posted on the progress (with pics, of course ). ------------------ 71 Monte 383 "The Full Monty" 86 Monte LS ZZ4 "The Gray Mouse" http://go.to/Monte Member NMCOA, FGMCC "It ain't a car if it's not a Monte"
Guest
i installed a megashifter in my 72' when i did all of the work last year, but i have buckets and the shifter is set back a little, not forward. i think the most trouble that i had was drilling the hole for the cable to go through. screwed up once and had to drill another. other than that, it wasn't too bad. good luck with the installation. have fun, it's a kick [you said a naughty!] shifter. Chevymd350
I have the chance to get one of these shifters, i'm looking at that one or a hurst promatic 2 ratchet shifter to put in my bench seat 70. Is there any thing I could do before I put the tranny in to make the job easier? Thanks alot MAtt
Andreas
To make it easier, do not put the tranny in. Its is 100% easier to install the shifter with the tranny out of the car. ------------------ 71 Monte 383 "The Full Monty" 86 Monte LS ZZ4 "The Gray Mouse" http://go.to/Monte Member NMCOA, FGMCC "It ain't a car if it's not a Monte"
Guest
Ah good, thanks for the info, same shifter (likely) is goin' in the '72 next month along WITH a new tranny, so it's good to know to do the shifter first .

Andreas
Well, wanna floor shift but you have a bench seat? You do not have the $$$ to shell out for bucket seats and a console? Here is the solution: After almost twisting my fingers off to secure the last nut (reminder to myself: next time install a floor shifter when the tranny is out of the car!!), the B&M Megashifter is in!! Have made all the adjustments, but not tried it out on the road yet (Monte is still waiting for paint "stripped down"). But Boy, it really feels and looks good. you can slam it as hard as you want between neutral and L1 and still go up/down only one gear (ratchet). Still have to trim the base to fit the tranny tunnel 100%, but I put it in anyways. Digital cameras are a great thing, so go look at the pics of the installed shifter at http://go.to/Monte Hope you do not mind the missing doorpanels and other missing interior parts... Guest
Andreas, that looks excellent. I bet you are more than happy to deal with the busted knuckles since the end result looks so outstanding! You are definately one of the driving forces that gives others the insperation (sp?) to continue working on there Montes. ------------------ 72 Monte Carlo Webpage for my Monte Carlo http://darkforcemaster.tripod.com/pics/index5.html
Guest
The shifter install turned out great, andreas. You just have to take out the column shifter rod.
Andreas
Yeah, I am just waiting for a couple of test drives before I take all the stuff off the column...
