ss454-71
I found another distraction that I hope won't slow up progress on the convertible project. I came across an AZ CL ad for a 1970 ss454 monte being parted out. So I called and come to find out none of the parts were sold off the car yet and it is a # matching triple black car. It is sun-bleached but very straight with only a little rust in the package tray and a small spot on the driver fender. Love western cars. It's a one family owned car that sat in an alleyway for the last 22 years when it needed some repairs. It was vandalized by kids but in all they just stole the hood, trunk deck, broke the glass and the dash. I ended up working a deal and it showed up this week. First thing I did was drop the tank and found a build sheet. I know the Van Nuys cars usually have them above the gas tank on the driver side and this one did too confirming the Z20 and a host of other options. It's crazy that a piece of paper 44 years old this month is intact and legible! I won't let this distract me from finishing the convertible! But it may slow me down. Rob Peters
Congrats on the GREAT find. It would have been a shame for an SS in that shape to havebeen parted out so on top of finding a good start to a project, you have saved another SS Monte. ss454-71
Here are a few shots of the original rear air shocks and valve. It's cool that the factory shocks are still intact. They have no dampening left in them but are a great reference for the restoration. Notice the tags on the springs.

ss454-71
Well I hate to throw this out there but I'm considering selling the convertible body and cassis once I finish the metal work in order to further my other projects. Anyone interested send me an email at jeffemad@yahoo.com. I really don't want to let it go so better get it before I change my mind.

ss454-71
I've been trying to wrap-up the metal work on the convertible. Made some good progress on it lately. Had a helper too.
ss454-71
Starting to blend in the Q-panel tops. My objective was to keep as much as the original monte metal as possible and minimize the amount of weld seam.

ss454-71
Thanks for the encouragement! I did a little more today. I think I've dry fit everything 100 times. That's the only way to make sure things are properly aligned.
Rob Peters
Are you eliminating the rear quqter windows? From the pictures that is how it appears. rob
ss454-71
Are you eliminating the rear quqter windows? From the pictures that is how it appears. rob Quarter glass will fit in there. It will look and function like any other A body convertible from the era. I hope:).
ss454-71
Time to get the interior panels out to make sure things are lining up. I'm going to splice the Monte sail panels with the 68 chevelle convertible ones.
ss454-71
Spent some time on the car today tacking in the top of the driver side Q-panel. Also dry fit the tub perimeter stainless trim pieces. It fits really good all the way around. Now it's time to finish weld the Q-panel tops and tear it down for final welding. Ugh got tear it down again for the millionth time and hopefully the last.
