  1. Today
  2. Rob, my Monte is only 90 minutes away from Carlisle Fairgrounds at the bodyshop. It currently looks like this. lol
  3. Those are the same front ones I got for my Monte, from Amazon. They were $77 at the time (May 2023), and $91 now, in stock, free shipping, would be delivered on Monday. The Tire Rack number looks like it is for 1973 and later applications, at least in Summit's application list. The number above I used, has 1968-72 listed. Amazon also has the rears (24-009294) in stock $94, deliverable by Sunday. Don't know why Tire Rack says June.
  4. It’s funny because Amazon had them listed for about that price 3 weeks ago, now it’s up about $35. Although the shipping was free so it may be a wash if the Tire Rack is charging for shipping. Both Amazon and Summit were showing 24-131506 as a part number for the fronts. I’ll have to check into that.

So, Old Red is ready to tear up the road, hook up the pull behind and head to Carlisle for the Eastern Meet. We hope you will be able to make it. rob
  6. Sorry for such a late response. I was at a memorial for my sister-in-law. It looks like James, Scott and Joe got you taken care of. I chose the Bilsteins based on Joes recommendation. The 2” drop coils seem like the way to go to offset the lighter engine combo. You may want to check the spring rate with the factory rate. Because your engine combo is now lighter you may not get the 2” drop.

Ole Red is up and running. I am so tired of working on him that I hope I never have wrench on him again. Still some tweaking to do but we are close to being road worthy again. I’ve tried to up load the video I made but it keeps giving me a 200 error code so I am guessing it is to big of a file
  8. I should have mentioned that I have 2" lower springs going in. Not just for the reason above, but I wanted the stance a little lower before the engine change. But I'll keep the shock out with the shorter spring and see how it looks.
  9. Yesterday
  10. No rain today, altho we needed it. After I spent the day last month with the chainsaw cutting up the fallen trees I realized I was over my head. So had a crew tasked with the dead trees waiting to fall and the other sketchy ones . Now waiting on the fence crew.

  12. I wouldn't get my hopes up..... It's sunny and cold here today with more snow predicted this weekend. I'm pretty sure it's heading your way after it finishes with us.
  13. I switched from KYB's to Bilstein's as well.... Haven't got it on the road yet, but after finding that the KYB's had drained out over the winter, I decided that a good shock is worth the extra $$$.
  14. Hey, been awhile since I updated on the 71 SS project. Its on the road but still working through some electrical issues. I had the power windows and power seat working before the new carpet and headliner were installed. After the carpet and headliner install was completed the power windows/seat were not working. I quickly discovered the wire to the IGN connection on the fuse box was disconnected. I reconnected the wire and the power sea, it's now working but not the windows. Relay was not engaging but had 12V. I then discovered that if the key is in the ACC position the windows and seat work. The key was always very difficult to put into the ACC position, and now it's not going into the ACC position at all. One other symptom, when the IGN wire is disconnected from the fuse box, the key in the run position and I activate the power seat switch the power window relay engages but windows are not working and the seat is not working. I checked the seat and it is grounded. I'm thinking the ignition switch could be suspect. Post new pics next week. Your thoughts?
  15. I recommend the Bilstein shocks as well. I have had them for several years and they perform quite well, limiting body roll and helping with cornering immensely. That being said, the ride height is determined by the springs and if your car sits too high you may want to consider swapping those out after checking the height without shocks as recommended by Mark
  16. I believe we are until Wednesday!!! It's back on
  17. Got ours last night. I think we’re rain free until the middle of next week.
  18. Wow, Gene Winfield going strong at 96. I love it !!! Being around custom cars, car shows and automotive events keeps him young. He has been customizing cars since the mid 60’s. Come meet this customization auto legend at the Syracuse Nationals !!!
  19. I initially had put KYB shocks on my Monte (72 Custom which includes the larger front sway bar that the F41 suspension offered). Car seemed to be a little soft with those shocks on it, especially on the highway. I decided to try the Bilstein's after that. As mentioned, they cost more, but do seem to ride better and provide more control. Only thing I did was remove the stickers, paint them, then re-apply the trimmed down stickers. I painted the blue boot with black vinyl dye as well. https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/topic/19368-new-guy-here/page/37/#comment-255389
  20. What made you choose the Bilsteins if I may ask?
  21. Thanks for joining in on the fun, it was nice talking to you earlier...you should put your car on the Auto Train and bring it too rather than flying. rob
  22. Awesome! Now I'll recognize you right away in Carlisle!
  23. Gene Winfield will be a guest again and giving out his award. I had no idea he was 96 and still going strong.
  24. It will be great to meet you and all the other fine people in the club.
