I have a 71 monte with a 454 and a 4 speed with most of the correct SS badging. Its not an SS by any means but I love the subtle badges and that blacked out rear tail panel. People always ask me if its original or tell me that its not. I know its not and that's usually the first thing I tell them. Ive been called a faker....but i built the car the way I like it. I tell them the only thing its missing is the ride leveling system and an automatic.

I think it is one of the best ideas for a SS clone I can think of (maybe with a LS6?)

Club member Tim Oest had an LS6 and 4-speed in his 70 SS454 for a while. Pretty cool "what if" car. He took out the LS6 and custom built a 572 engine that looks like the stock LS5.

odd question what do you figure the price tag would be on a 71 454 4spd documented car if it surfaced?

I guess that would depend on the condition of the car as well as what someone is willing to pay for it. I would imagine a 1/1 car like that would be worth somewhere north of $150k, in my opinion. Possibly more.

I think the only benchmark as far as pricing would be the Dick Harrel-modified LS-6 Monte Carlo and I don't think it's changed hands in quite awhile.

If you have one I will give you $1,000 I think that is more than fair lol really it is hard to say you would need more than one person who had to have it at an auction or get it appraised and go from there. I agree with Nate it would be close to the Dick Harrel Monte.

It sounds like a cool phantom car! As for if a documented LS-6 or 4-speed SS454 were to surface it probably would be valued somewhere around what Nate Z has suggested. The Old Cars Price Guide would probably show "inestimable", due to the fact that there aren't any around to base a price on!

At the western meet I overheard two older codgers say to each other "See, I told you that they made a SS454 4speed" Those two were looking over my SS. I am afraid that my efforts to make my car appear as factory as possable does little to dispell the myth. TIM
