Hey Guys,

Trying to figure out my seat belts. I have factory buckets in my 72. I have the build sheet but does not identify RPO Code for them. Car was built in Van Nuys, CA.
I have shoulder harnesses but the receptical on the seat belt isn't there to attach them. Because the harnesses and belts don't attach I am confused. I have seen some build sheets where the RPO Code for 3 point belts are shown. Was this an option? I am just trying to understand why they don't attach. I will check the labels on the belts and see if are date coded properly for this year but do appear to be factory. I'm guessing GN didn't identify the belts on the build sheet unless they were an option?

Thanx for any help in clearing up my question. Just don't have enough info available to answer this question.

Doug

I don't have my build sheet, but the window sticker and bill of sale that I got with my car shows the 3-point belts as an extra-cost option. Option AK1, Custom Deluxe Belts, $14.00. On mine, the shoulder belt attaches directly to the male end of the factory lap belt with what is basically a shouldered bolt on the shoulder portion and a matching cutout on the lap belt. If your lap belt doesn't have it, either someone added the shoulder portion, or the lap belts aren't original.

They all came with the shoulder belt. The deluxe belts have the chrome buckles, the standard belts are the black plastic buckles.

As Kyle stated above, the shoulder belt hooks into the male end of your lap belt with the deluxe belt system. I can't remember if it is the same for the standard belts in 72.

There is a thread on the board here somewhere discussing the many variations of seat belts used in first gen Montes. Try doing a search for it.

Yeah Aaron, I have been searching for a thread that will enlighten me but haven't found it yet.
I would guess car came with standard belts as there is no mention on the build sheet. I'm guessing but haven't checked yet if the belts in her now are the originals. The more I dig into the history, the more things I find that were likely not factory installed.
I purchased a complete set of deluxe belts some time ago and eventually will install these as they are setup for the shoulder harnesses.
I'll keep checking for more info on the belts also & appreciate all input received.

I never use my shoulder belts because they cross at an uncomfortable point...like they are trying to saw thru my neck.
Anyway, if I recall, I had a separate female end bolted to the floor that they plugged into. I remember having the option of lap belt only...or both, or even shoulder belt only shocked

Am I remembering wrong? I remember my bench seat was just a mass of possible belt ends and they didn't interchange.

Wallaby,
My 71 "Bench Seat" had DELUXE seat belts as mentioned above have smaller brushed metal lap belt buckles and larger brushed shoulder belt buckles WITH a convenient storage holder three for the ft and three for the rear seat. In addition the "lap belt" was a "SELF TIGHTENING" modern style not the pull em tight style. My shoulder belts were "tighten em up" style and cut my neck. 72 may have been different or after all these years, someone changes something!
I now have three point MORRIS system and I like it.

I have those things in the back seat, but don't remember if the front bench had them. They sound like a good idea, but you have to adjust the belt length to get them to fit into the holders (always some loose strap left over)..then re-adjust them again if you want to wear them. It's a pretty good solution if you intend to just sit on top of the belts and not wear them. It eliminates the big tangled pile of belts/buckles under your keester.
