2003
Michigan Meet and Greet
On
July 19, 2003 a group of First Generation Monte Carlo owners all got
together at the home of Leo Konik in St. Clair Michigan for a Meet
and Greet. For those who do not know what that is, it is basically a
chance for friends, and members to get together without all of the
hassles of your conventional car show, or club meet.
In
attendance were FGMCC Members, non-members, friends, and relatives.
The cars present were from stock to modified, street to strip,
restored to unrestored. People did not even have to have their
Montes present to join in and have fun; we had quite a few in
attendance that were Monte less.
People
from Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, and Canada were present to just kick
back and relax amongst friends. We
had 3 of the club officers present for the informal event Pete
McLearen Vice-President, Lisa McLearen Secretary, and Ryan Bahr
Webmaster.
All
generations of Monte Carlos’ were well represented. We had a total
of 8 Montes’ in attendance 6 black, and 1 green. Listed are the
Montes’ that were there.
1970
Monte Carlo SS - Triple black – Stock – Leo & Sue Konik
1970
Monte Carlo - Black – Heavily modified – Daryl Smith
1971
Monte Carlo SS – Black – Modified – Jim & Heidi Mitschkes
1971
Monte Carlo – Black – Stock – Bruce & Sandy Stange
1972
Monte Carlo Custom – Black – Stock – Marcello Battaglini
1972
Monte Carlo – Black – Modified – Leo & Sure Konik
1972
Monte Carlo – Black – Modified – Tim Knight
1972
Monte Carlo – Green – Modified – Pete & Lisa McLearen
Leo Konik, and
Daryl Smith were kind enough to take FGMCC Secretary Lisa McLearen
for rides in their Montes’ all I can say is the smile was on her
face from those the rest of the day (Lisa loves fast cars), and
Leos’ street received a new coating of rubber compliments of the
Meet and Greet…. HA!
This was truly
a great time for everyone who attended, there was a BBQ with a lot
of bench racing, and getting to know each other.
You could
easily tell that a great many friendships were made that day.
Although this
was not an official FGMCC meet, Leo Konik was presented with a die
cast 1970 Monte Carlo that everyone who attended signed as a thank
you for letting the Meet and Greet take place at his home.
We hope this
becomes a regular kind of gathering around the country, and we hope
this is the first of many in the Michigan region.
