  2. Hello all, New member here. However, I'm not new to the FG Monte Carlos. In the photo, this will be my 4th First Gen Monte, this 4th is far separated from the 1st-3rd cars. I first had the original car out of high school May 1980 then added two others and had all at the same time a few year later in my 20's. First car was a standard 71 shift on column 350 2bbl carb which I fixed all up mostly stock as far as the engine with just bolt on performance parts..ie Edlebrook intake w/4bbl Roch carb, HEI ign/Accel Super coil,etc. Painted it Forest green with rally rims and raised white letter tires. The 2nd and 3rd cars I basically left alone as they were, another 71 w/bucket seats, shift on floor with a 402 BB engine. Third car was a standard 72 with 2bbl carb shift on column. I ended up giving that to my brother and wife who sorely needed a car. I eventually sold the second 71(402 BB, shift on floor) and kept my original 71 and had it until 1990 but wished I'd never sold that car. Then I was Monte Carlo-less until a month ago and now have this 72 Monte Carlo Custom. In the photo, you obviously see another classic "vehicle." After I sold off the original 71 in 1990 I got involved in aviation and bought this 1970 Cessna turbo 210 machine. It is also a classic although the aviation world doesn't identify airplanes as classics or antiques as it were like the automotive world does. So since 1990 I've been winging my way on many memorial trips and places but can see my flying days starting to wind down mostly thru lack of interest but also health wise. So, about a year ago my interest in classic cars started to come back and started peaking around looking at some cars, mostly Chevy but also old Fords like TBirds. I do have a 1990 TBird though since 1994 which has been my daily driver mostly and really like it. But the original love of the classic Chevy car has never left and found this 72 Custom up in PA. It's a mostly original Golden Brown with white top 350 4bbl shift on floor bucket seats saddle color interior. Has 88,197 original miles and does come with the build sheet and all the extras and is a fairly nice car with some minor defects which I plan to correct. My son is just starting to get into car at 14 so this could end up being his car someday. Sorry about the photo quality, not as sharp and clear as I was hoping.

  4. I'm not really familiar with conversation or vacuum pumps but normally if your holding light pressure on brake pedal and it fades down its usually a bad master cylinder, on stock systems anyhow.

  5. Decreasing line size will do nothing to 'increase' line pressure. System pressure is system pressure. I left the line sizes as is when converting to 4 w disc, no issues. You shouldn't need a residual valve either, unless the master was placed in an odd location, like a street rod or something. I did pressure bleed my brakes when I had some air issues, did get a few more bubbles of air out of the system. (I usually vacuum bleed, unless that isn't completely effective, or I suspect there are air pockets left).

  14. No fluid. I usually use Permatex 'spray-a-gasket' on paper gaskets like that. Couple of coats, let it tack up a bit & put it together.

  15. I was waiting for that question. They are original from a l78 69 chevelle that was turned into a race car the first month of its life. They were wrapped up for 52 years until they were sold to me

  16. Dennis, It worked, but I did it a bit differently. On my P.C. I opened "Microsoft Office", then opened "Microsoft Office Picture Manager", then Edit Pictures, then I selected the picture, then clicked on "rotate and flip" then "flip vertical" then save it. It worked! Now you all can try it on the picture below. Have fun! Thanks, Bruce

  17. Bruce, if you can't find an easier way, you can do it by brute force using the Microsoft Office Suite. Just open a New file in PowerPoint and select the Title and Content page layout. It has a title bar and a content box below that which will accept eight types of content from text to graphics to picture/images and more. Ignore the Title bar and click on the lower left icon "pictures" of the Content box, then select the photo you want to reverse from your file system. That will insert the photo onto your blank page. Click anywhere on the page to leave Insert mode and then click on the photo again to select it. Now click on the Arrange function on your task bar and select Rotate from the drop down menu. Finally click on "Flip horizontally" and the negative text image will become readable. Like I said, only if you can't find an easier way ... 😄

  18. I adjusted one recently when someone posted a plate. I googled and found an online one, it reversed and flipped it, real quick & easy.   19. You know how the plate is a mirror or backwards image, right? I swear I scanned mine and was able to "reverse" it so it was readable several years ago but now I can't find the software to do it. Perhaps it was way back with my old APPLE computer. (or I'm just too old to remember)

Got 1971 Canada Protec-O-Plate almost done, but still one number on the second row far right (4) and two numbers on the bottom third row 1 (space) 3 NOTE: Note: Oshawa warranty card have the rear end code on line 2 and the transmission code on line 3, just the opposite of U.S. warranty cards. Additionally the carburetor code letter is directly after the VIN instead of between the rear end code and option numbers.

In my collection of stuff I have about my car, today I found I have the printed book named "Decoding Guide" General Motors Protect-O-Plate for 1965 - 1972 Chevrolet Models by Paul Herd. There are 66 pages in it. I don't remember buying it or when I got it! It has 2002 as a date printed on the first page.

  25. I’ve been working on a page today for decoding the protectoplate. I had no idea how much information is available on there. If anyone wants to share their protectoplate with me I would appreciate some examples. I have the protectoplate for my Dad’s Chevelle he sold in the 70s. I had fun decoding that today. Here’s what I found with that car: 1970 Chevelle 2door coupe built in Oct 1969. 307 engine with TH350 trans. Rochester carb. Engine was built in Tonawanda Oct 1, 1969. 2.73 non posi rear built Oct 17, 1969 by McKinnon Industries. The transmission was built by Cleveland Sep 27, 1969. There is even more info on specific option codes but I’m not going that deep with our page. That would be a lot of info to research.

  26. This all has me so fascinated I wish we could have a decoder program, and it would include variables like protect o plates from the US and Canada, since they are different, and is 70 different than 71 or 72 and is 71 different than them and if 72 is different that them..........
