  1. Spent another hour+ with the 7" air grinder getting the spots the big machine couldn't do near the doors, posts, and various spots in the middle that needed to be touched up. More fun! The diamond wheel and dust collector came from Amazon today. Worked excellent.

  2. Thanks guys, after getting back to her it turned out to be a few different issues. The wiring was screwed up as we knew, the coil was bad, i also changed the points. Still didnt start, it spun but no start. So i moved to the fuel, it had a fuel pump that was loaded with those mud wasps, so i changed the pump. now i had spark to the plugs and fuel to the carb. Still no start, This car has been sitting for about 8 or 9 years. Turns out i got her running today. The carb was for a 350 truck. i put one of my 454 carbs on it today and started right up. All good in Willies World!!!! Now i just have to put everything back together. lol Thanks for all the help everyone!!!!!

  4. My family has always had BFG RWL tires on my cars dating back 40 years but with the brown letters issue I’m looking to switch brands. I need tires for my 71 SS. I really like the Firestone Wide Oval radials that Coker sells but I don’t have the budget for those. Are people happy with their Cooper Cobra tires?

  5. The two different style gasket or seal base of the mirror caused the most stress for me. The wrong one was already on the mirror and the correct one was somewhere in the box. Some people, I have heard, never got two, just one correct one. Inside / under the top of the door skin where the studs go through, waiting for the nuts, MAY already have an area where the holes should be drilled. If you can, look closely to see. If I remember correctly, my holes may have been off slightly but it all worked well. It is a tight confined space and my fat fingers were a disadvantage trying to start the nuts, that were metric, I think. Enjoy!

  7. Is there any other way to confirm and document one of these cars other than matching bins on block and car? Just picked one up and was surprised to find they didn’t produce a build sheet for these at the Flint plant. I would like to reproduce a build sheet just for my own benefit.

  8. In my opinion the values of SS454s and 4-speed Montes have been climbing quite a bit the past 5 or so years. Most of the regular small block cars are up a little too but not significant. Some very nice low mile small block examples have sold for good money the last couple years though. Recent auctions have broken new ground with sale prices over $100k for some very special cars which will have an effect on all our Montes. I really believe this is due to people starting to recognize how rare and special the SS454s and 4-speed Montes are. Collectors have been trying to seek out something different just like how more people started looking closer at Firebirds/Trans Ams a few years ago as an alternative to Camaros. I don't believe the Monte will ever reach Chevelle/Camaro levels. Those cars have a reputation that can never be changed as they were marketed as a muscle car while our Montes were not.
