  1. Update: 12 miles per gallon this morning on a 23 mile drive on hilly roads! Very pleased with myself, thanks for all the help guys. Also, the drive was out to a new mechanic, who had a corvette, 'stang, and loads of classic euro cars like Alfa Romeos and of course lots of beemers. He's going to line the radiator and replace the water pump for me, and do the suspension stuff. Making real progress.

  2. Yeah John, he's pretty happy about it. I got it almost all welded up today, just need to add a few more tomorrow. Maybe some corrosion protection & seam sealer tomorrow & then undercoating the day after. If all goes well, he'll have it before the weekend. Got about 8 hours into it so far, a lot more labor than I've gotten sleep in the last few days, lol. Got about 40 minutes of sleep today...

  3. Good to see others helping others out there!! Helped an older gentlemen out on Saturday, lost his wallet at the grocery store. It was sitting on one of those scooter chairs. I stopped to make sure I had my keys and list, glanced down at the seat, saw a blood donors pin and then realized there was a wallet. opened it up saw no ID,looked some more ,found drivers license, took in into store to the manager. Later saw the manager as was walking out, said they contacted him. Hope I see him in the store next time I'm there.... Who knows, could be my new drinking buddy!

  4. Joe: I am sure you alleviated a lot of stress for him and his wife. With finances being tight I'm sure the possibility of having to scrap the car must have weighed heavily on both of them. With all the BS going on in this world it's really good to hear there are so many FGMCC members that are good Samaritans and stepping up when needed.

  5. Stop overthinking. Change the pads from the OLD, dried out, glazed pads to new, fresh ones and enjoy the better stopping and NO noises. You know this Arron. Lolol. I certainly understand wanting the "originality" but I dont mess around with old, even NOS brake pads or shoes unless it's on a concourse restoration that does not get driven.

  6. My latest project paint the front porch, I decided to go with white railings just for a change. Was practice for when I do my rear deck that one is a monster about 20 by 25 feet with all them spindles and on the second level of the house, that's gonna be a real pain but needs to be done. Here's before and after. Then a new electric jack for front of my trailer and clean the awning. Busy days. But I didn't hurt myself other than old people pain 😅

  7. Dennis, did you insulate before you hung that siding? Because something tells me you’re gonna be sleeping out there come winter time if Karen doesn’t have a spot in the garage by then.

  8. Looks to me , you don't have any fuel in bowl. I pour fuel into tube coming up in center of carb. Straight spark plug boot works well. Pour some in and press accelerator pump. That's the arm moving up and down in video. Pump could also be pinched, check plunger. That should then squirt into throttle blades.

  11. Think it was around. 39 cents a gallon when I started working my first job a a gas station in about 71, when I worked for Mobil oil Corp. In mid seventys it was 59.9 cents a gallon. Those were the days 🙄

  13. Yeah, all those dry seals inside are not going to hold much. Best to fill the carb and let the rubber soak up a bit.

  14. If you're talking about the lamp in the very back of the console, it's a 212-1 according to the owner's manual. Rated at 6 candle power. Looks like the dome light, but that one is 211-1, rated at 12 CP. It's possible you may have put a dome rated lamp in there before and melted the plastic lens. Any auto parts store or online source should have what you're looking for. (A quick search shows 212-2 available, looks like the same specs)

  15. Looks like it's already been flipped, lol. (yeah, I know....too easy). Maybe if it was a lot less than $10K, even then, more work than I would care to do.

  16. Sammy, I will check your car in Carlisle for the Lucas oil, so you best be prepared for that! 👀

  17. Is rotor replacement out of the question on this? It seems like it could have been repaired already with new pads/rotors.

  19. That's why car makers in the past used to leave extra hose under the hood..... Just in case there was a roadside emergency.

  20. Got a little side tracked.... Someone we go to the cruise nights with recently had a shop turn his car away for a repair. He's older and lives off a social security check only and can't afford to junk the car & get a new one. Apparently it's a common failure with Ford Escapes, the rear wheelhouse/shock tower rots away and the shock just flops in the breeze. I got it at least cut out & roughed in before coming back into work tonight. 4 more working nights 'til retirement. Good thing he brought it now, I'll be in the sheetmetal shop tonight making some parts, lol. Maybe I'll get a few good karma points for doing this sh*t job...

  22. I assume you have it all back together now but another thing you can try is spin the rotor around by hand and use a die grinder and grind the rust ridge off the inside and outside edges and put a non directional pattern on the rotors.

  23. Based on the look of the rotor you’re not getting full pad contact. See the dark glazing near the hub. I know the groove is original to the rotor but clean that out really good and put a new set of pads on. Or sand it down. Also the rivits if worn will make the pad move ever so slightly, causing noise.

  24. Yesterday I finally got around to pulling the calipers. I sanded the pads, sanded the rotors, bent the clip for the inner pad slightly so it holds the pad nice and tight, used disc brake quiet, bent the tabs on the outer pad so they are tight to the caliper and lubed up the caliper pins. I still have the squeak. For all the pads Ive changed over the past 25 years on multiple Montes I’ve never had this issue. I believe these pads are 15-20 years old if that makes a difference. The person that put these pads on used RTV where the pad meets the caliper likely to fix this squeak. I scraped all that off to see if that helped but didn’t make a difference. The sound certainly sounds like the front brakes but I’ll pull the drums off to inspect those just in case. Meanwhile, when I cruise the beach… eeek, eeek, eeek, eeek, eeek…. LOL My 12-year-old daughter was interested in what I was doing today. She learned how disc brakes work.

  25. I've never seen a groove that wide in any rotor! Usually it is just a small V groove that would turn bright when the pads were nearing end of life. Your pads are wearing almost enough to polish the sides and bottom of that wide groove also. Seems to me you are giving up a lot (1/4 to 1/3) of your disc surface area that could be used effectively for braking. Are you sure the squeaking is coming from the front?
