  1. But to keep it “ legal “ in the forum I got my Monte in the picture. Lol. First of all NOT mine. A good customer of mine who happens to own a very successful garage ( and other things) don’t have time to work on his own cars. This will probably be one of 4 different projects. 69 superbee, 83 Monte SS ( 22,000 mile car) and a 32 deluxe coupe ( whatever that is). None of these cars have seen the light of day in at least 20 years. I have to get them running for him. The 55 has 3 inches of marmalade in the gas tank. Wish me luck or hit me in the head with a 2x4. Lol.

  2. About 9 years ago now my father in law bought this 71 Monte Carlo, running and driving, but in need of restoration. As time has passed and he gets closer to retirement, he's lost interest, wants to put his spare income towards retirement and so the car is now coming to me in order to finish it and get it back on the road. First though, I have a garage / workshop that needs to be built (it's about halfway done at the moment, stupid COVID + the insane cost of materials are slowing it down massively). I can't find pictures of the car when we first picked it up, although I know I have a bunch, as well as various pictures through the tear down of it. Here's where it sits currently, in need of blowing the dust off... The bodywork and frame are all done, suspension and brakes done, transmission rebuilt, engine rebuilt (mostly). So looking at it I don't think it will take a huge amount to get it back on the road, I believe a bunch of the trim is in a barn nearby, but I need to determine what there is. I think to get it on the road I need: Interior Wiring Exhaust Drive shaft Lights Bumpers, trim, grill Finish the engine - It's a 350, likely going to go with a fuel injected set up. Maybe I am missing something, I think that is the bulk of it though. I'm torn on whether to add a vinyl top, I wanted to add one, but someone mentioned that they can be problematic with regards to rust, which I'd like to avoid. It'll likely be kept garaged and not driven in the rain, so maybe it's a moot point, but still something to think about. The goal is to simply have it finished as a nice car to cruise around in, not worried about originality or performance, just want it to be back on the road where it should be. Once I get it here and start to work on it, I am sure I will have a ton of questions, likely beginning with what should I do first... I'm thinking either get the engine and transmission complete and in, or wiring harness. One of those, then get the exterior complete, before finally working on the interior. So, hopefully, in the not too distant future this will be back on the road.

  4. Got my 15 year member badge today, it's very nice but now I have to remove the radiator cover to put it on. I'll just put it below the 5 year badge and if I make it to 20 years then I'll move them around a little. Very nice I thought I had another year to go 😀

  5. Hay guys here she is. I have known every owner except the original owner. My pops owned his own shop in the Bay Area for 40 years. Second owner was a guy who worked for my dad and she was in bad shape then. The third owner was a close friend of my dads who met him by doing business with his shop, and he restored it to blue ribbon condition. Forth owner was a local police officer that we became great friends with that used to set a speed trap right out front of my dads shop, and he would let us point the radar gun at cars to catch speeders when we were kids me and my brother. The cop did not have a garage to keep the car in and he put a tarp over it in a car port and the paint began to bubble. He took it to the body shop and she sat outside for 16 years. I tried to buy the car several times and he would not let her go. Finally the body shop put a lean sale on the car and I got her first dibs. Of corse we are also great friends with the guys at the local body shop as well. It was just around the corner from my dads shop. She is a true SS 454 #s matching. I have already started the resto so I’ll be posting updates. Glade to be apart of this club and thanks for accepting my request.

  6. Here is the real deal. I used to sell these to members. I do have some but have not found them yet. These are GM straps that were used on many vehicles in the 70’s and 80’s. They were available through GM Dealers.

  7. Yes you can go to the 2 port fuel pump, the 3rd line is a return line, you will need to cap it if you have a vented gas cap.

  8. Thanks to the forum for the 5 year member badge. Very cool, I can't believe it's been 5 years already. Looking forward to the next 5 years. Maybe I'll get lucky and add a 4 speed car to this one. Thanks again.

  10. 1st......Welcome to the Club! Best $25 you'll ever spend. We also like to spend your money on parts we admire. 2nd ,Nice Monte ,as for the top,if your keeping it out of the elements ,put the top on. I have a trick to keep the rain out of the rear package tray area channel under the glass. The gold color cars, look better with the vinyl top to me . Like Steve said, you're car ,do what you want. Going back original or modify your ride ? We also like details on what you have there. Mine is a '72 also.4 yr restoration ( weekends only). 2 guys ,1 shop. Nut and bolt frame off style.Lots of rust and repair panels. 16yrs ,looks about the same, ( I know all the bad spots). Do something more to it every year, never done. Going 427BBC / Turbo 400, 3:73 12 next.....The it might be finished.

  12. I just received my 20 year grill badge today. Thank you so much! I read through this web site everyday, several times, and really enjoy the posts. Here are two pictures, one from this summer and the other from June 6, 1971. Bruce

  13. Wow 🤩 had a great time. I purposely took no pictures of Ken’s private collection as he and I agreed that doing it old school with mental pictures instead would be best. At the show I did take a couple pics. This is my favourite. A boy and his mom from Quebec that played with the slot cars for over an hour.

  15. We had a fun weekend with the car show and cruise. This is a great group. Here are some photos from the weekend. Len and I cruised the beach Friday afternoon. We had a Monte party at my place Friday night. Car show Saturday in the park. The weather was amazing. We had a BBQ at my place in the evening. Sunday we did a cruise. A little smoke rolled in from a wildfire but it was still a great day. We stopped at a private property with a lot of great old cars. The owners gave us a full tour with many stories to go along with the many vehicles. Ken the owner offers beer to anyone who wants one and says “Old cars always look better with a beer in your hand.” This truly is a special place to check out and everyone enjoyed it. We were there for 3 hours before moving on to a few other stops at viewpoints and ice cream.
