  1. Got a couple small dents I missed and a couple spots that need some attention and some paint corrections but no need to strip it down all the way thank goodness. Used a gravity feed gun and I do think pressure was a little high. It was fully dry yes but my compressor died on the final coat so pressure did drop some. Had to get a new compressor to do the clear. I'll hopefully get it.

  2. Just remember we are the worst critics of our own work.

  3. I am not completly happy the way hood turned out so its back off and I'll start over. Hinges are off and getting ready to send out to be rebuilt. No one else really noticed the flaws (or didn't say anything) but I did so I start over and hopefully don't screw it up worse lol. At least I don't have to do the complete build again.

  7. So Steve, now that you have it down to a science you can start popping them out at a pace of one a week and Jim can be your first customer. I’m sure that you have nothing better to do. Lol.

  8. That's the truth !!! I have cursed myself out so many times !! And most of the time, I just can't let it go.

  9. Ahh ok. I see some in the lighting you have. I would run a tape line down the center and block sand each side of the hood. I wouldn't strip it down completely. Use the paint as a guide and see how it comes out. You did and are doing a great job. A little more finesse and you'll have it! When you painted the base, what type of gun did you use and at what pressure? Was the base fully dry before you applied the clear? By no means am I picking on you or your work.

  10. I thought it looked great in Syracuse, I didn’t notice any flaws. As the owner though, you know every fine detail that we casual lookers would never see. Best of luck with the update!

  11. it happens more often than not with us... probably since the Monte is a bit out of the "classic mainstream" but if you educate someone on an incorrect statement and they become belligerent or insistent then maybe ,yes, the fun can begin... "oh yea my uncle also had a '65 monte with a V12 in it...come to think of it , blah blah blah

  12. It’s entertaining for me to listen to people who tell me they have never seen a four-speed Monte Carlo before. They always ask me who put it in. I tell them the Van Nuys GM assembly plant, and they can’t understand that. The other group of people are those that tell me that their buddy had an SS 454 Monte with a four-speed. Anyone can put a four-speed in a Monte, but when I tell them Chevrolet never built one then they usually get quite upset at me. Now I just turn away it’s difficult to tolerate stupidity. John S

  14. Yes. The Ball pops out of the cable. Transmission cable gets adjusted the same way. You may need to make an extension for the cable to work.

  15. Oh you thinking that eh Jim that's probably not gonna happen 😅 that was a pain in the butt right from the start to finish. I was told that though from a couple people but did I listen of course not I had to see if I could do it.

  16. I don't have the knowledge or attention to detail on Montes to pick things apart, especially in the auto body thread. Most of the work I see posted blows me away . As Dennis said, we are our own worst critics. Some of us spend hours on stuff nobody will ever see and put other stuff lower on the priority list because its just not that important at the moment. From all the work you've done I'm pretty sure you'll be happier and doubt you'll make it worse.

  17. exactly! what is to be gained by calling this one an "SS clone"? it looks nothing like a factory SS just say very clean customized big block '70 and negotiate from there...

  19. I like to stand back and listen to an "expert" point out stuff to another person about my car as well. You know, two guys talking and the one providing all kinds of false info about my car and the way the car should be. Just proves that half the folks you know are below average and always makes me smile.

  20. O.K..... The brain fog has cleared a bit.... (lol) If memory serves, it was 1984's "Silent Night, Deadly Night". I was confusing it with 1974's "Black Christmas"..... Sorry, no college girls.
