  1. Basil is one of the larger local dealers. They have Ford, Chevy, Toyota, etc. I'm guessing this is an offshoot of those businesses. Odd that there's only one ebay feedback and 4 transactions. Maybe they just started using ebay? There's certainly a pretty good inventory of cars there on their website (154), but only 3 sold? Maybe someday I'll take a ride out there if I'm bored, if the lazy-boy chair releases it's grip on my azz.

  2. That pops off pretty easy. Remove the end screws from the inside, then it'll just pop off the plastic retainers that are on the door skin. You could pop it off by hand, or just slip something under it to get it started.

  5. And here I thought “nut plates” was something squirrels ordered off the appetizer menu. I’ll be here all week, don’t forget to tip your waitress.

  7. I installed 3.31's and a tru trac on 70 SS that had the same 2.56 open. I find that its happiest in the 25-65mph range. Mine is more of an intown cruiser rather than the highway. It will certainly run at 70+, but I dont like to buzz it that high for mile after mile. If you intend to run it at highway speeds (55-80) a lot, Id consider staying with what you have or the 3.08's. I have 235-60-15's, so it a short tire. when its time for new tires, I plan to go taller. My other 454/4sp 70' has 275/60/15's, but its not on the road yet. It took me a few tries and different speedo gears to find the right one after I changed gears.

  9. Well I ran into another snag tonight. Picked up my rotors from being turned and put the inner race in the first one no problem. Put the inner race in on the second one and it literally fell right into place without me even having to drive it in. Apparently this rotor is worn and won't properly hold the new race. I seriously doubt that Timken has a race that is out of tolerance, so I went ahead and just ordered another rotor from Rock Auto. I think I ordered the one from Raybestos. I put the other rotor back together and got it installed with new caliper and rubber line on the passenger side, now I'm AWP again (AWaiting Parts) for the other rotor. Oh well, I still have to install the air shocks and inspect the rear brakes while I wait for the other rotor. And I may go ahead and start ripping into the HVAC Box. After a thorough lashing and a Safety lecture mind you, Joe has convinced me to go ahead and bite the bullet and go ahead and replace the evaporator and get the correct one for my car. I'll have to order another POA Update kit too cuz I'm pretty sure I buggared up the threads on the one I have. But Joe's right, at least this way I will have the correct stuff on the car and the system should work much better than original because they new condensers and evaporators have improved technology to help them work more efficiently with R-134a. So now I'll have new Compressor, New Condenser, new receiver/dryer, new condenser line, new expansion valve, new evaporator and POA Eliminator. The only part that won't be new is the metal line that runs in front of the condenser and the big line for the compressor manifold but it looks to still be in pretty good shape. Now if only all of the vacuum and controls work to operate the system! I put up a good fight because I did not want to have to get into that HVAC Box, but I finally succumbed to Joes Logic. LOL He's absolutely right! Let's do it right!

  10. I put 3.07 gears in my 71 SS454 and really enjoy driving it. I used to have 3.73 in it and didn’t like it for the way I use the car. 3.31 would be a good gear as well.

  12. My '70 SS had a 2.56 Posi and was a good cruiser, also. My '70 402 4 speed has a 3.31 Posi which I believe was an option for the SS that year as well. It would be a compromise between the 3.08 and 3.42. How tall are the rear tires you plan on running? You can get away with a bit higher (numerical) ratio if you are running a taller tire like a 275/60-15 that is 28" tall.

  13. Let me know, I'll go check it out for you. EDIT: Just noticed it doesn't have the typical 72 rear trim pieces, and the interior door panels & seats aren't 72 either. Brake booster/master look odd too. VIN decodes to 1972 though, 350 2bbl, Baltimore plant. Hmmmm. EDIT #2: So, I googled the VIN, things got real interesting. Took me to this page which has a lot more pictures and details. Hmmm, hmmmm, hmmm.. https://carauctionwatch.com/item/166032764287?make=Chevrolet&model=Monte+Carlo&year=1972 Little more digging found this. Looks like it sold on ebay for $15.5K https://www.ebay.com/itm/166032764287?ff3=2&toolid=10040&campid=5338838859&customid=&lgeo=1&vectorid=229466&item=166032764287&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&ufes_redirect=true&nma=true&si=TdRmE%2F%2FiF1HcReihHrQx%2BQrLoB8%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 https://www.youtube.com/embed/yMb-UcUHnTo?rel=0

  21. Dale, Joe is going to help me with the torque converter after the AC. I'm confident now with the TV cable, just popping it off the ball on carb. link and removing a 10 mm bolt that holds the cable housing to the transmission, then pulling up on the cable, it will have some slack and take the hook out of the link, we'll keep the link from falling back into the transmission. see my diagram fig.1. We won't loose any adjustment. Then with the new torque converter I won't lose about 700 rpm when I drop it in gear. I WILL BE SO HAPPY!!!!! Wayne

  22. I agree with Rob on the gravity bleed but I do it when I’m doing a major brake job. I do the work on the right rear and then leave the bleeder open while I’m doing the left side just to push air and make sure there’s a good dripping, then close it and do the left rear. I always go back and do a hard pressure bleed when I make sure I have flow to all 4 wheels.

  23. Same rim as on my 70. We did a topic on this particular rim awhile ago. They were used on the Monte in 70 ( partial year) before going to the 71 rim.

  24. I’m enjoying this car a little too much. I have put on 240 miles. The car passed its safety inspection yesterday and is now registered in my name. If a car is brought in from outside the province an inspection is required. Usually anything they find wrong during the inspection are things that should be fixed anyway.

  25. Dale, You would have to see it, but option 1 removing at the transmission would be the best. you don' want to lose the position of the adjustment. Here's some pictures. Wayne

  28. Rest in Peace Jim Brown. He was a legendary amazing football player with the Cleveland Browns. He also acted in some films and active in the Civil Rights Movement. Jim Brown also supported Mohammed Ali's choice to not serve in the military due to religious beliefs. Jim Brown died today at the age of 87 surrounded by his family. rob
