  1. Mine too has dissolved before I purchased my car. I found a very thick plastic battery tray that I am trying to mount and hold the battery up, but when the plastic heats up(I live in Fresno, CA), the battery's weight makes the plastic sag, so I will have to have a support like that too. But with the current corrosion cleanup I've done, the bracket will have to be a bit taller(getting tired of using cable ties to set my battery where I want it, lol). First thing to look for is to see if the holes are still useable in the frame where it mounts, probably fab your own if you can.
  2. PB blaster, wide blade putty knife, pair of screw drivers, and a hammer finally coaxed the fan off the pully shaft. No rust in there, just an extremely tight fit. The new water pump slid right into the fan with very nice fit. So far, no leaks, an nice smooth flow of coolant through the radiator, and no more terrible sounds from the bad bearing.
  3. Had a nasty vibration come and go the last couple weeks and finally the water pump bearing gave out and leaked fluid on the floor today. Got the old water pump and fan assembly out but can't get the fan to separate from the hub. I removed the 4 bolts holding the fan to the belt housing? unit and it seems that the fan is press fitted to the main water pump shaft? Or did someone use a heavy duty bonding agent to hold the water pump to the belt housing. I don't want to damage the fan unit, so a little advice would help. Thanks in advance. I have a 1970 Monte with the standard 350 v8. I can see that the water pump and the fan have 1\4" plates that sandwich the belt housing and the holes are aligned. If we need pictures, I can take some time tomorrow and post them. Ron It's been a while since I last posted, but life got the better of me when my company shut down on us unexpectedly on April 27th and I was unemployed for 8 weeks while looking for a new job. First time in 29 straight years I ever had to face unemployment and the prospect of having to sell my car. But all worked out, and I am once again teaching, this time it's industrial maintenance technicians instead of PC repair technicians.
  4. Finally bit the bullet and got my 1 major issue with the car repaired this last couple weeks while on vacation. Had the rear axle overhauled and hopefully will get other drivers to quit bothering me about my wobbly left rear tire. To keep this short, I had the left rear axle replaced, the housing straightened out, and all new bushings and oil. It seems the car had hit a curb rather hard prior to me buying it, now the rear end looks brand spankin new. My mechanic says it has 3.73 gears in the rear end. I don't know if that ratio is original is it? To me it doesn't make sense that the car can pull 20mpg on the highway on it's lone 4 hour trip.
  5. Ordered a used pair of 15x7 rally rims. Hopefully the gent will deliver them tomorrow while I'm at work. I have to replace one rim that has a nice 2" crack forming on a ridge where the center cap mounts, and the other rim will be used for a spare tire(needs to be powder coated first, it's in rough shape).
  6. Very good suggestion Evan91. How do they actually attach if you don't mind me asking. Looks as if one end is held down by the nut center cap?
  7. I had the tires matched up front and rear so we don't have odd ball sizes anymore. The car will normally be parked in my garage when I am home. The problems comes when I drive it around town and park in public parking lots and at work, who knows what could happen. As far as media blasting, not yet. Just want to get all the little things done. Here is my list so far. Paint rims this week, one is cracked just found out Replace rear shocks Clean engine bay Repair A/C unit, I think the clutch is broken(has a loose inner plate, it just spins freely) Repair some rot in the right side of trunk right below the Monte carlo emblems on that 3" wide plate by the 2 big bolts. Detail and paint the rear axle, might even change the fluid.
  8. Got the tires rotated and balanced on the car today(4 different sizes were present, lol). I had the service guy leave off the center caps and rings because I need to repaint the rally rims. I'll only put on the caps and rings before I go to a show or some other special occasion. For the time being does anyone know of some secure center caps I could use? I have looked at quite a few but it just seems that someone equipped with a flat blade could pop off the caps easily. BTW - standard 15x7 rally rims. I'll post some pictures of them later.
