  1. It does, but I can't get them until I get home from work.
  2. That's what I thought. So, they sold me the wrong fan shroud and it's too late to return it as I bought it last year.
  3. Tom, How far in the tunnel does your radiator fan sit? I pulled my tunnel off my small block AC fan shroud, but the one I bought off ebay that says it's for a 71 and 72 big block is bigger than my tunnel and therefore I can't attach my tunnel to the new shroud. Attached are two pictures of my tunnel sitting inside of the supposedly big block fan shroud I bought from musclefactory0 on ebay. Do you happen to have any side shots of how far back the tunnel comes towards the engine? Also, I've added bucket seats and a center console to my 72 Monte, and want to know how to omit the transmission gear indicator in the instrument cluster? Thanks, Doug
  4. High performance shift kit and 2,800 rpm stall converter installed in the trans, and the 416 BB sitting in its spot now. Got the new starter, new fuel pump, and headers installed. Now I have to get either an 8" or 9" dual diaphragm power brake booster so I can get my left valve cover bolted on.
  5. I have my stock 2.73 gears with a factory posi, but I want to find a type 3 carrier. I'm running taller tires in the rear and with the Big Block I'm installing in my 72, I want to lower the gear ratio.
  6. Welcome Luke! Very nice looking Monte you have there.
  7. Steve, Do you have a spare air cleaner for sale then?
  8. Welcome Jarrett from a NE Oregon fellow Monte owner! I got my 72 Monte in July 2017 and it's still not done yet. Working a full time job and then prioritizing friends' and family members vehicles for mechanic tasks has side tracked my Monte for the last 4 years, but now I've taken a stand told my friend's with reoccurring mechanic issues that I can't work on their stuff as much now due to the tendonitis in my left shoulder that showed up after working on their rigs for the last 4 years, and now I need to dedicate my time to my own projects for once. When I bought my 72 Monte it was complete except for the engine and radiator. I'm the 3rd owner of it. The lady that originally ordered it, ordered it Dark Sequoia Green, green interior, black vinyl top, A/C, and tilt column. It came from the Van Nuys CA plant and was shipped to Tigard OR and then it made it to Pilot Rock OR to Maurice Roy Garage where she lived and bought it from. She always parked it in her garage and drove it until around 1999 or 2000 when her son told her she needed to quit driving due to her eyesight. She drove 15 miles from Pilot Rock to Pendleton OR regularly and drove her daughter to cancer treatments for 6 months, so the Monte has low miles on the odometer. She sold it to a local guy and he drove it for about 3 years locally until his son slid into a ditch and dented the right front fender and passenger side of the core support. It sat on concrete blocks in his yard until I bought it in 2017. I had a new custom built 396 SBC stroker engine in it, but that has been removed and getting ready to install a fresh totally rebuilt 415ci BB engine in it. I just need to finish a couple minor body work things on it, and then I can get the etching primer on the bare metal and then some block and sanding, and finally get it painted so I can start driving it.
  9. Unfortunately I don't know if my Monte will be ready in time for this years meet. I'm building a 415 ci BBC engine for it and I'm still waiting on the 290 heads to get done at the machine shop. I just got the new SS Ferrea oversized valves in the mail and dropped them off to the machine shop. New guides, seats, valve job, unshroud the valves, and blend in the bowl is what's being done to the heads. I've had tendonitis in my left shoulder for a month now due to working on friend's rigs way too much for the last 2 years and not working on my Monte Carlo. I have to wear a shoulder/arm brace at the moment, but it is starting to feel a tiny bit better. Tendonitis isn't like muscle where you can exercise it to heal the tissue. Tendons and ligaments don't have any blood supply in them and therefore cannot be healed via exercise. Just time and babying it is the only course of therapy. I just need to finish aligning my front clip to the body and then it can be ready to be sprayed with the etching primer over the bare metal, and then bondo, blocking and sanding, getting it ready for paint and clear coat. All of this is dependent upon my friend that works at a body shop to get it painted before June since I already paid him to help me with getting the body prepped and painted.
  10. I have quite a few models in my collection, cars, 4x4 pickups and Blazers, Baa Baa Black Sheep Corsair and Japanese Zero planes, and semi trucks and trailers. I haven't sat down to work on anything for a couple months as life gets in the way with other projects. I do intend to build this one in the same color that I'm painting my Monte Carlo. I have a cowl induction hood for it to match the hood I bought for my car.
  11. Steve, So which style of spare top pieces do you have?
  12. I picked up a MSD 8394 E Curve distributor from a good friend of mine for $100. On the topic of intake and exhaust valves, which brands of stainless valves are good to run? I know Manley and Ferrea SS valves are good, but there has to be some more brands that folks have used without any issues that don't cost as much. I see Summit Racing has their version of SS valves, but don't know if they are made by someone else and then Summit puts their name on them? I'm having my 290 heads done, but need to order the 2.19 and 1.88 SS valves to go in them.
  13. I'll drive my Monte once it's painted and put back together, probably at least down to the lower 40* temps. I won't drive it at freezing temps just because it would be my luck that some dipstick would lose control and hit my car.
  14. First module built tonight. I will see if I can test it on my Monte Carlo tomorrow after work, even though there's no engine in it right now.
  15. Which MSD distributor - with or without vacuum advance? I have a brand new Speed Demon 750 cfm with electric choke. I called Edelbrock and the tech told me that the Air Gap intake will have issues atomizing fuel in the 20 to 30 degree temps, other than that it should be fine.
  16. Update - I have the supplies now and I will start building them this week.
  17. What about idle issues when temps get down in the 30's and 40's? My buddy has a RPM Air Gap on his 383 stroker in his 79 Z28, and he has idle issues when it gets down towards freezing temps.
  18. Which dual plane intake manifold seems to produce the best hp & torque? Edelbrock RPM Edelbrock Q JET RPM Edelbrock RPM Air Gap - I question this one for cold weather drivability issues? My buddy experiences it when the weather gets to 30's to freezing temps and has idle issues. Weiand - Stealth Holley - N/A in dual plane any longer Offenhauser 360* dual plane Also, which distributor system to use that will not fall off at 2500 rpm like a stock HEI and continue to work with camshaft rpm up to 6,200 rpm?
  19. Just a quick update. I had to work some side jobs to be able to purchase the delay boards, wiring, connectors, boxes, etc., which has me on out of pocket expenses $600+ so far. I have not asked for money up front from anyone as I didn't have a timeframe as to when I will receive the parts to build these modules. Fortunately, even though most of the parts are not here in the USA, shipping is only supposed to take a week for the majority of the parts. As soon as I get all the parts in from the vendors I will start building these wiper delay modules. Thanks, Doug
  20. My new oil pump is just a standard pressure/volume pump. Melling only makes High Volume but not High Pressure oil pumps for a big block Chevy. I talked with my friend that runs his own machine shop locally and I've used him for getting my block ready, and said that the 3 angle valve job and deck the heads is $320, new valve guides installed is $100, and new hardened exhaust seats. I've been told to enlarge the intake valves from the stock 2.06 to 2.19 and unshroud the valves/blend the bowls and install stainless steel valves. I've heard to leave the exhaust valves at 1.72 and I've heard to enlarge them to 1.88. I'm not sure which way to go on the exhaust valves yet?
  21. I'll have to look at the Melling oil pump that I bought to verify if it's a high volume or high pressure pump that I bought. It's still new in the box and can be returned if I bought the wrong one.
  22. I've got my BB engine on the engine stand and have the crank and main bearings installed with the bearings to crank plasti-gaged. I ordered a ring filer tool and now I just need to gap my rings so I can get the pistons and rings and rod bearings installed, and new Melling high volume oil pump installed. My cylinder heads are the 290 castings which are semi closed chamber heads with 2.06 and 1.72 valves with 113cc chambers . With my Silvolite 1445-060 domed pistons and these heads, my comp ratio according to the machine shop will be 9.5:1. Is that too much compression for pump gas? The machine shop said that I'll have to run 91 octane and probably retard the timing a couple degrees for that comp ratio. If I find a set of open chamber heads like 781 or 049 heads that are 120 to 122cc chambers, it will reduce my comp ratio to 8.5:1. My brand new cam kit is the Lunati Voodoo 10703 kit - 268/276 LSA 110, 542"/554" lift, RPM 1,800-6,200, Dur @ .50" 227/233 It's been 30 years since I built my last big block and I need some input from you folks that have been in the big block realm more often than myself. Should I find a set of open chamber heads or just get my 290 heads cleaned up and gone through? Any idea of semi closed chamber head engine HP vs open chamber head HP? Thanks, Doug
  23. When I get one built for my 72 Monte Carlo, I'll let you know what I find out. Doug
  24. I will try to keep the wiper delay units under $100, but it depends upon the cost of the parts and my labor to build each one. 4.5 years ago they were $56.95 shipped. Here is a video of it in a 67-72 Chevy pickup for reference; Wiper delay module
